Please be aware that there will be road construction this summer. If you follow one of these routes to get to us, you may need to detour and be sure to allow enough time to get here.
🚧 Highway 22 & Highway 109 Detour in Wells Begins April 28 🚧
Attention Wells residents and travelers! 🚗 The detour for the Highway 22 and Highway 109 construction project will begin on Tuesday, April 28 (weather permitting). This is part of a major 2026-2027 improvement project to enhance our roads and make them safer for everyone.
What's happening:
✅ Pavement and utility improvements
✅ Upgraded bicycle & pedestrian accommodations
✅ New safety features including narrower lanes, intersection changes, curb extensions, and bike lanes.
Road Closures:
🚫 Highway 109 will be closed to through-traffic from west of Rose Hill Cemetery to Highway 22.
🚫 Highway 22 will be closed from the northern intersection with Highway 109 to south of 1st Street Southwest.
Detours:
Through-traffic will be detoured to Highways 22, 109, I-90, and Faribault County Road 21. Local access to homes and businesses will remain open.
🚧 Construction is expected to continue until fall 2026. Please be aware that schedules may change due to weather or unforeseen conditions.
Project Costs & Benefits:
💰 Project cost: $16,379,813.06 (Awarded to Ulland Brothers)
👍 Benefits: Improved pavement, utilities, and safer accommodations for cyclists and pedestrians.
