If spots on my calendar have been limited lately, it's for good reason.

Over the last week we have been hosting family from out of town, culminating in getting married on August 16th in Leavenworth.

To current patients: expect program updates and messaging today.

To potential patients: Free evaluations end August 31st.

Honeymoon starts September 8th to the 25th, with ongoing messaging, albeit a bit slower, during that time for active patients. So if you’re needing an evaluation, I’d recommend sooner than later :)

I’ve dealt with knee pain for 15 years. I used to start rehab for it, but stop after a few weeks, feeling like there wasn’t progress being made because I still had pain.

But what was happening was I wasn’t giving things enough time to take effect and make lasting changes.

In 2023 I started working with a PT I trusted, I spent over 6 months working with them to get my knee to a point where I was able to go about my day without noticing pain and lifting weights that challenged me physically and didn’t flare my knee up.

It was another 6 months before I really started to stop thinking about if my knee could handle X activity.

A full year of showing up, doing what I could, and progressively challenging the knee. And now I’m doing all the activities I want without hesitation.

It’s not sexy, but when dealing with chronic pain, focusing on the long term (6 months or more) should be the focus. Symptoms can fluctuate week to week and day to day. But on a monthly time scale is when you can gauge progress.

This is difficult to do on your own, that’s why even a PT needs a PT. If you’re struggling with persistent pain that is keeping you from doing the movements at the gym that you want to do, it’s not too late.

Schedule your evaluation with a PT who understands your performance goals. Evaluations are free through the end of August, book yours today. Link in bio.

One painful day can make it feel like all your progress disappeared.

Before assuming you are back at the beginning, look at what changed over the last few days.

Did your training volume jump? Did you add hills, speed, weight, or a new exercise? Has sleep or recovery been worse?

You do not need to ignore the symptoms. You also do not need to assume that every flare-up means you should stop everything.

Try adjusting one variable and keep the movements that feel manageable. Then pay attention to the overall trend.

When symptoms are severe, worsening, or not settling, get them evaluated.

Save this for the next time a flare-up tries to convince you that you have lost all your progress.

What does fitness forward PT mean?

If you’re an active person who gets injured and you’re told to stop everything so it can heal, you’re likely missing the forest for the trees.

The bigger picture is you’re more than just your injured body part. Maintaining strength and conditioning (the whole system aka the forest) while rehabbing the injury (aka the trees) is incredibly important.

Load management isn’t just for the pro athletes.

If you’re wanting a Fitness Forward approach to PT, I’m doing free evaluations through August only (limited spots left).
