Your tattoo is finished. Your skin isn’t.
Welcome to Sunday Ink 101 — real tattoo knowledge from the artists at NYPO.
That cloudy, dull or slightly “off” stage during healing can be completely normal. Your skin is repairing itself, shedding old layers and building new skin over the tattoo. During that process, the piece may peel, flake, itch or temporarily lose some of its fresh-day punch.
The big rule: don’t interfere with the process. Don’t pick. Don’t scratch. Don’t drown it in moisturizer. Keep it clean, use a thin layer of appropriate aftercare, and give your body time to do what it does.
And pay attention to anything that feels outside normal healing — spreading redness, unusual discharge, excessive swelling, heat, fever or chills are reasons to reach out to your artist or a medical professional.
Good tattoos deserve good healing.
Save this carousel for your next tattoo — and if there’s a tattoo question you want us to cover next Sunday, drop it below.

Loving sisters. Matching tattoos. One bond that goes far beyond the ink. ✨
Maria created these delicate matching sun, moon and star pieces as a permanent symbol of connection — individual lives, different paths, but always part of the same story.

That’s what makes matching tattoos so powerful. They aren’t just identical designs. They become a shared memory, a private language, and a reminder that some relationships stay with you no matter how much life changes.

Different journeys. Same roots. Forever connected.

A look back at some of ’s earlier work — and you can already see the range that defines him as an artist.
This collection moves from massive black-and-grey realism and narrative back pieces to saturated color, portraiture, wildlife, Asian-inspired imagery, florals, religious work and surreal compositions. Different subjects, different palettes, different moods — but the same attention to depth, contrast, flow and storytelling throughout.
What stands out is how comfortably Po Po moves between styles. A snarling lion can feel cinematic and powerful, while a geisha or floral sleeve becomes delicate, colorful and almost painterly. Even the large-scale pieces are designed to work with the shape of the body rather than simply sit on it.
These are older pieces, but they show something important: the foundation was already there.

Why are we drawn to images of death? 💀
The skull forces us to look at something we normally avoid: our own mortality. But in tattoo culture, that symbol can become something completely different — strength, rebellion, survival and the decision to face fear instead of hiding from it.

There’s a psychological tension in this piece: darkness made beautiful, danger turned into art, mortality transformed into something you choose to carry.

takes that idea and gives it permanence.

Sometimes the images that make us uncomfortable are the ones that say the most about who we are.

A look back at some of earlier work — and the range speaks for itself.
From biomechanical machinery and anatomical surrealism to cinematic portraits, music icons, mythology, full-back compositions and highly detailed black-and-grey realism, Nuno’s work has always been about more than executing an image. He builds a complete visual world around the body, using contrast, flow, texture and storytelling to make every piece feel intentional.
Some of these tattoos go back years, but the craftsmanship still holds up.
And the best part: Nuno will be back at NYPO next week.
If you’ve been waiting to start a large-scale piece, rework an existing tattoo, or bring a more ambitious idea to life, this is the time to get on his schedule.

A great cover-up doesn’t just hide the old tattoo. It makes you forget it was ever there. 🐺
What started as a faded, difficult piece becomes a powerful black-and-grey wolf—using smart placement, deep contrast, texture and detail to completely redirect the eye.
That’s the art of a real cover-up: working with what’s already in the skin and turning it into something the client is proud to wear again.
Old ink doesn’t have to be the end of the story.

Some tattoos show what you believe in. Others carry what you refuse to forget. 🇺🇸
Swipe through a collection of patriotic and military realism built around service, sacrifice, history and remembrance.
From battlefield scenes and military aircraft to the American eagle, the flag, Lady Liberty and deeply personal tributes recreated from old photographs, every piece tells a different story—but they’re all connected by something bigger:
Honor. Legacy. Freedom. Memory.
These aren’t generic symbols dropped onto skin. The strongest pieces are personal—turning a photograph, a moment in history, or a family connection into something that can be carried forward for generations.
Marcello doesn’t just recreate history. He makes it personal.

Where your tattoo goes matters almost as much as what it is.
The right placement can improve flow, balance, visibility, detail, and how beautifully a piece ages over time.
Forearm. Upper arm. Ribs. Back. Every area offers a different canvas—and the best placement depends on the artwork, the scale, and the story you want to tell.

A portrait tattoo has nowhere to hide.
Every expression, every shadow, every tiny detail has to feel right—or the likeness disappears.
Watch , NYPO’s Portrait Master, build this piece from the first stencil marks to a finished portrait that feels almost photographic on skin.
The eyes. The smile. The subtle texture in the face. That’s where portrait work becomes something more than technique—it becomes recognition.
Every face. Every detail. Forever.

Different stories. Same language: strength, protection, faith and power. ⚔️🦁
Swipe through a collection where mythology, spirituality and symbolism collide.
Gods and warriors.
Lions and beasts.
Angels and protectors.
The heavens, the cosmos, and the forces bigger than ourselves.
Each piece stands on its own, but together they share the same energy—larger-than-life imagery rendered in black-and-grey realism, built around subjects that have represented courage, struggle and protection for centuries.
This is tattooing with weight behind it. Not just something to look at—something to carry with you.
doesn’t just tattoo images. He turn symbolism into skin.
