🌿 Grounding practices

With the upcoming stretch of warmer weather, it’s a great time to get outside — and reconnect in simple ways that support how we feel.

Spending time in direct contact with the earth — gardening, walking barefoot, or standing outside — is often called grounding or earthing.

From a physiologic perspective, the earth carries a subtle negative charge, while our bodies can become relatively electron deficient (positively charged) from daily exposures like electronics, stress, and limited outdoor time. Direct contact with the ground may allow for a small transfer of electrons, which could help neutralize free radicals and support a more balanced inflammatory state.

Research is still evolving, but many people notice these practices feel calming, stabilizing, and restorative — especially in a world that keeps us indoors and overstimulated.

Sometimes support doesn’t come from doing more, but from returning to what’s always been there.

Raising Resilient Families: A Practical Guide to Immune Health
With Dr. Kelly Darmody, MD & Erica Reigle, NP

Here’s what we’ll cover:

🧬 Understanding the Immune System

🦠 Why Gut Health Shapes Immunity
How the microbiome influences nutrient absorption, inflammation, sleep, and resilience — and what digestive symptoms may be telling you.

❄️ Cold all year round?
It’s not always just the weather.

Feeling persistently cold — especially in the hands, feet, or overall body — can sometimes be a sign that the body’s regulatory systems need a closer look. Two areas that may play a role are thyroid function and nervous system regulation.

The thyroid helps control metabolism, circulation, and how your body generates heat. When thyroid activity is lower, some people notice fatigue, dry skin, slowed energy, or feeling chilled more easily.

The vagus nerve, part of the parasympathetic nervous system, also influences temperature regulation by affecting blood flow, stress response, and how the body shifts between “fight or flight” and “rest and restore.” When this system is dysregulated, circulation and warmth can be affected — even when labs look relatively normal.

Of course, being cold doesn’t always mean something is wrong — but persistent symptoms are often worth exploring with a broader lens.

At Antidote Health Co, we look at patterns, physiology, and nervous system health together — because symptoms rarely exist in isolation.

🏃‍♀️ Move your body daily.
How you move is up to you.

Regular movement supports far more than physical fitness. Daily body movement can help reduce anxiety, improve muscle strength, support bone density, enhance blood flow to both the body and brain, and improve sleep quality.

Movement is one of the simplest, most accessible tools we have to support both physical and mental health — especially when it’s approached with flexibility and intention.

At Antidote Health Co, exercise isn’t offered as a generic recommendation or a footnote at the end of a visit. Thoughtful movement guidance is intentionally incorporated into individualized health plans, reflecting its role as a foundational part of long-term health and wellbeing.

And it doesn’t have to look a certain way. Running, lifting, dancing, Pilates, walking, stretching — all movement counts. The goal isn’t intensity or perfection, but consistency and connection to your body.

💧 What’s in your water — and is it actually hydrating you?

Hydration isn’t just about how much water you drink. It’s also about what’s in that water.

Many municipal water systems are heavily treated to ensure safety, but that process often strips water of naturally occurring minerals that help support absorption and cellular hydration. Without adequate minerals, water may move through the body without fully supporting fluid balance.

There are also growing concerns about microplastics in drinking water, which are now being detected in both bottled and tap water, and may contribute to long-term health stressors we’re still learning about.

Mineral balance matters too. Trace minerals — including magnesium, calcium, and copper — play important roles in hydration, energy production, connective tissue health, and enzymatic function. Imbalances, whether from low intake or excess exposure, can affect how well the body uses the water you drink.

At Antidote Health Co, we look beyond the surface of “drink more water” and consider hydration in the context of mineral balance, environmental exposures, and individual physiology.

Care that looks deeper and listens longer.
