As the biggest fundraising event of CVIM’s year, the annual CVIM Golf Classic is always a long day full of beautiful, picture-perfect moments.
And as the 25th anniversary of this event, this year truly provided moments nobody expected; moments many of us are still talking about–– from the early, chilly hours of set-up, when staff members, volunteers, and board members gathered at Applebrook Golf Club to welcome golfers, to the sunset as we closed the day.
There was the moment when CVIM President and CEO Karen Kofalt told the golfers —some of whom don’t know what CVIM is –– about the nearly 5,000 hard-working, low-income, uninsured patients each year who rely on CVIM for free, comprehensive healthcare for themselves and their families.
The moment when CVIM volunteer endodontist Dr. Bruce Terry described the transformation he sees in patients who arrive scared and in pain, and leave with relief, hope, and gratitude.
The moment when Honorary Chair Steve Fera from Independence Blue Cross shared that not only does CVIM help our own patients, but our work inspired Independence to find other clinics like ours to also support—crediting CVIM with saving lives of those we haven’t even met.
The moment during the Call to Action that took everyone’s breath away: when an attendee learned that a matched $500 gift to CVIM could pay for behavioral health counseling for 10 troubled adolescents, and raised his hand to donate, sharing that this was important to him because his own child has mental health struggles.
A favorite slogan of ours is “To know CVIM is to love CVIM.” At this year’s Golf Classic, as each attendee got to know about CVIM and the work we do in the community, the love that resulted was palpable.
Indeed, the support from everyone involved; Donors, Golfers, Sponsors, Board Members, and Volunteers, raised nearly $450,000 in support of CVIM’s mission.
We are grateful beyond measure to all who made this happen. You will see their names on the accompanying slides, along with a few photo highlights of the day.
