We’re moving into Backstroke, but I’m already thinking about Teaser. 👀

This is where we build that connection: getting comfortable on the box, moving the arms and legs while staying centered and in control.

Plug your arms into your back, stay connected through your center, and notice how the whole body works together. You’re already preparing for the balance and coordination that Teaser will ask of you.

Every exercise lays the groundwork for what comes next. ✨

How you move matters just as much as where you’re going. ✨

Pulling Straps and T-Pull on the reformer bring this idea to life: the arms connect to the back, the spine lengthens, and the whole body works together through every phase of the movement.

We’re cultivating strength with support, grace with control, and a greater sense of ease. Give the return as much attention as the pull.

That’s the practice: creating a quality of movement that carries into your quality of life. 🤍

A more approachable way to find your Swan. 🦢

I chose this variation because the classical Swan setup can be tricky on a non-classical Reformer.

This version lets you ease into spinal extension, building back-body strength and finding length through the spine as you open through the chest.

A great option for introducing Swan to clients or group classes—with room to build confidence and control.

Looks like arms. Feels like everything. 🔥

Shaving + Hug are deceptively challenging. The work begins with how you organize your spine and rib cage—and connect your arms into your back and core.

By the time you get to Hug, you’ll know if you’ve lost it… because the springs will start running the show. 👀

🚣 Rowing From the Front ✨

The challenge here is keeping the spine lifted and organized while the arms move independently around it.

Rather than letting the shoulders or spine follow the arms, the work is to stay connected through the back, maintain length through the torso, and move the arms from a strong, supported center.

It’s that combination of mobility + stability:
arms moving freely, shoulders staying organized, spine staying tall, and the back body and breath supporting it all.

So much coordination in what looks like a simple movement.

🚣 Rowing Flat Back is such a beautiful example of what Pilates is really asking of us: strength, mobility, control and awareness—all happening at once.

The deep core stabilizes the trunk while the shoulders and arms move independently. The spine stays long. The body has to continually sense where it is in space.

And this is where the neuromuscular work gets interesting.

It’s not just about stretching or strengthening a muscle. It’s about teaching the nervous system to recognize tension, control it and let it go.

More awareness. More proprioception. More choice in how we move.

Thanks to for the endless lessons and studies over the years.

What once felt awkward has become one of my favorite examples of what makes Pilates so powerful.

In Rowing Round Back, your deep core controls the movement of the spine while your shoulders and arms move independently—still at the same time everything working together with precision.

✨ Deep core control
✨ Spinal mobility
✨ Shoulder mobility
✨ Coordination
✨ Proprioception + body awareness
✨ Balance and control

It’s not just about getting through the choreography. It’s about knowing where your body is in space—and controlling how every piece moves in relationship to the whole.

Coordination is a skill — and just like strength, it gets better when you train it.

When your arms and legs are moving in different patterns, your brain has to work right alongside your body — connecting timing, balance, rhythm and control.

It’s one of my favorite ways to make simple movement more challenging without adding more weight.

Train the brain. Challenge the body. Move smarter.

OVERHEAD — and this one blows my mind. 🤯

It’s only the third exercise in the Reformer sequence, and we’re already going overhead.

This is full-body control from the very beginning. There’s no checking out. You have to be present, focused, precise and completely connected to what your body is doing.

And that’s the Pilates method.

It’s not just about performing an exercise. It’s concentration, control, breath and awareness — all working together.

Three exercises in and Pilates is already asking for your full attention.

Your body is moving, but your mind has to be there too.
