The fertilized egg is supposed to attach inside the uterus but it attaches outside the uterus in the case of ectopic pregnancy. It is a form of miscarriage and is dangerous as it could lead to organ damage or death or life-threatening internal bleeding. Some signs and symptoms of ectopic pregnancy are:
- Vaginal bleeding
- Low back our shoulder pain
- Pelvic pain
- Feeling faint or dizzy due to loss of blood
Immediate treatment is necessary so please call your doctor immediately if you are pregnancy and feel the above symptoms. Treatment involves medication and surgery.
After surgery, a woman is usually placed on bed rest. After bed rest, and the woman is cleared by the doctor for exercise, it is important to seek care from a pelvic health physical therapist.
I am currently seeing a client who had an ectopic pregnancy. She was cleared by her surgeon so we did an initial evaluation. She had a lot of pain in the back at rest and was increased by movement. It was very difficult for her to get in and out of the treatment table, to turn on her sides.
Before anything else, we addressed what many women do not get to experience: we honored the life that she lost. Her potential offspring. Then we honored the lost of her fallopian tube and her significant contributions. My client has three children. After doing this, we worked on improving the motility (mobility of an organ) by a specialized modality called visceral manipulation.
I wanted to share today how important it is to not forget to honor parts of us that we lose. Energies of removed organs remain in our bodies until we release them. Energy of an unborn child can remain in our body until we release her or him. The energetic release can unblock the system and will improve energetic flow and aid in healing. In addition, emotions stored in the organs are directly connected to our brain. Our organs and brain have a bidirectional communication.
After one week, my client today is able to walk slowly on the treadmill. She has increased range of motion of her low back. She was able to move with greater ease on the treatment table and we were able to progress her exercise program. She is great client, very motivated to get back to running which makes my job much easier! 🙂
And did I mention I LOVE my work?
