Headaches that start in your neck may not just be “stress headaches.”

The nuchal ligament plays an important role in supporting your head and neck. When this tissue becomes tight, irritated, or inflamed, it can contribute to compression and irritation of nearby nerves and muscles.

This can lead to:
• Tension headaches
• Pain at the base of the skull
• Neck stiffness
• Headaches that travel behind the eyes or into the forehead

Physical therapy can help improve mobility, decrease muscle tension, and reduce stress on the nerves and supporting structures of the neck.

Don’t ignore recurring headaches that seem to start in your neck — your body may be telling you something!
