Meet the 2026 Liver Life Walk Carolinas Event Chair, Ellen Sellers! Ellen and her husband, Bakari Sellers, became deeply connected to the liver community after their daughter Sadie was diagnosed with biliary atresia shortly after birth and underwent a successful liver transplant in 2019. Grateful for the medical advancements and access to care that saved Sadie’s life, Ellen is committed to working with American Liver Foundation to raise awareness and ensure all families facing liver disease have access to the care and resources they need.

Meet your Liver Life Champions, Liver Health Heroes, and sponsors for the Liver Life Walk in Cincinnati!

2026 LIVEr Champion, Donald Melillo, received a liver transplant in October of 2012. Today he honors his organ donor by raising awareness about liver disease, supporting others waiting for transplants, and spending cherished time with his family.

Liver Life Walk Cincinnati’s Pediatric LIVEr Champion, Loralei Hatch, was born with biliary atresia. At just five weeks old, she underwent a Kasai procedure, and against the odds, has grown into a healthy thriving 14-year-old.

Meet the 2026 Liver Life Walk Cincinnati Event Chair, Julianna Coates! Julianna walks in honor of herself and for all those affected by liver disease.

"I am honored to serve as the 2026 Liver Life Walk Cincinnati Event Chair. I believe deeply in this mission and in the power of community. I remain hopeful that continued research will one day lead to a treatment—and ultimately a cure—for Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis. Until then, I will continue walking, advocating, and sharing my story in support of everyone affected by liver disease."

Happy Marathon Monday! Today we are honoring Team Captain and runner Jim O’Connell! Jim will be running the 2026 Bank of America Chicago Marathon on October 11th!

Jim runs to honor his father, who passed away too soon from liver cancer. His father touched many lives as both a friend and parent. Over the years, Jim has participated in several Liver Life Challenge teams, running alongside people with their own liver-related stories, medical professionals, and even liver transplant recipients.

Jim said, “It’s all just so inspiring, so continuing to raise money to benefit this important organization by running very long distances seems like a no-brainer.”

In recognition of Hepatitis Awareness Month, it is important to spotlight conditions that affect liver health—like autoimmune hepatitis. 💚

Autoimmune hepatitis is a rare disease in which the body’s immune system attacks its liver cells and causes long-term inflammation and liver damage. Many times, initial symptoms of autoimmune hepatitis may be minor or go unnoticed. When they occur, the most common are fatigue, abdominal discomfort, aching joints, itching, jaundice, enlarged liver, nausea, and spider-like angiomas on the skin. While there is no cure for autoimmune hepatitis, treatment can help and early diagnosis is key to preventing serious complications like cirrhosis and liver failure.
