Kona Girl Wellness WHY THE NAME, "KONA GIRL WELLNESS?"

I wanted to share a bit of the story behind Kona Girl Wellness, a name that means a lot to me.

Uplift Your Soul, Free Your Mind, Love Your Body
Nutrition Consultant
Certified Stretch Coach, Tips on Fitness, Freeing your Mind and Finding your faith, Movement Is Health, Movement is Life - Get Moving!
Help save the turtles When I was picking a name for my nutrition and fitness journey, I wanted something that wasn’t just catchy but also captured my personal journey and the inspiration that got me here. The whole thing started with my first experience watching the Kona Ironman. Seeing regular folks and top athletes alike giving everything they had to complete this insane race really hit me hard—especially the everyday people pushing through and crossing that finish line after 17 hours. That level of heart, grit, and determination sparked something in me. Back then, I never would’ve believed I could take on a triathlon, let alone do an Ironman distance. But over time, I trained, built up my strength, and—eventually—did it. It was a life-changer and showed me what we’re capable of when we really commit. I’ve also got a deep love for the ocean (and yes, sea turtles!), having lived most of my life near the beach. The ocean has always been a huge source of peace and joy for me, and combining that love with my passion for fitness is where Kona Girl Wellness was born. Kona Girl Wellness is my way of celebrating that journey—the spirit of the Kona Ironman and the magic of the ocean. My goal is to help others tap into that same strength and find their own path to health and happiness. We’re in this together, and I want to create a space where everyone feels encouraged to break barriers and find what’s possible for them. Let’s keep lifting each other up!

55 years old.
Today I filled out a health form and circled “NO” to every medical condition.
No daily medications.

I don’t take that for granted.
Good health isn’t promised to any of us.
Today, I’m simply thanking God for mine. 🙏❤️

This is why I ride.

It’s not just about miles, speed or fitness.

There’s something about getting on my bike, riding by the ocean, being completely in my own head and then stopping at one of my favorite spots.

My body worked.
My mind got quiet.
And my soul feels lighter.

This is what wellness means to me.

Uplift your soul.
Free your mind.
Love your body. 💛

My drive home took a few days. I stopped in Savannah for a couple of days and it was amazing.❤️

Turns out I have a large local allergic reaction to bee stings. I was stung on my right temple, and by the next morning my eye was swollen shut. Thankfully, it wasn’t anaphylaxis, but it took several days for the swelling to go down. 🐝

Back in 2002, I stood in this exact spot and made one of the biggest decisions of my life. I decided I was going to train for an Ironman. At the time, I had no idea how many early mornings, long rides, long runs, swims, and moments of self-doubt were ahead of me. I just knew I wanted to see if I could do it.

In 2003, that dream became reality.

Riding these same roads again all these years later has been such a gift. It’s brought back memories I hadn’t thought about in years and reminded me that every challenge, every mile, and every finish line becomes part of who you are.

Life looks very different today than it did back then, but one thing hasn’t changed: I still love being outside, moving my body, and appreciating everything it’s carried me through.

Sometimes it’s good to look back. Not because you want to go back, but because it reminds you of your strength… and that you’re still writing your story. 💙🚴

Today I rode part of the route I used to train on for Ironman Florida. Back then I’d ride from Deerfield Beach all the way to Palm Beach/lake worth Inlet. Today was about a 24-mile ride, and all I could think was, damn, I really used to do that. 😂

It’s amazing how different seasons of life look. I’m not training for an Ironman anymore, but I’m still grateful to be out riding, staying active, and appreciating what this body can do.

Keep moving. You don’t have to be an Ironman. Just don’t stop. 💙
