PAO (periacetabular osteotomy) is a pretty remarkable operation: we cut the pelvis, reposition the hip socket for better coverage, and let the body heal in its new geometry.

Yes. We moved her hip socket.

Why?

So Maya could move everything else.

Run.
Cut.
Kick.
Compete.

Back on the field and in life, doing what she loves.

Achondroplasia.
Spinal stenosis.
Chiari malformation.

For seven months, she endured constant headaches, neck pain, and numbness and tingling in her arms and hands.

Nothing helped.

Chiari malformation occurs when the lower brain extends into the spinal canal, putting pressure where the brain and spine meet. Specialized imaging finally revealed the cause.

Zoee underwent Chiari decompression surgery to create more room and relieve the pressure.

When she woke up?

No headache.

Not “a little better.”
Not “we’ll see how it goes.”

NO HEADACHE!

For the first time in seven months.

Medicine and anatomy can be complicated. But sometimes the answer is simple:

You have to know what you’re looking for.

The right diagnosis, imaging, and specialized care matter.

Teo.

From Poland.
Dwarfism.
And a spine that needed a very specialized plan.

Spinal deformity in dwarfism isn’t simply scoliosis in a smaller body. The anatomy is different. The space around the spinal cord can be tighter. And millimeters matter.

These before-and-after images are dramatic.

One very little hip.

Hip dysplasia runs in Scotti’s family, so her family knew to check early.

That matters.

In babies, the hip is still developing. When dysplasia is caught early, a brace can help hold the hip in the right position and guide healthy development as they grow. Early intervention will have an enormous and lifelong impact.

Jennifer’s idea of a Saturday date:

I was skeptical.

The reformer looked more like something designed by NASA than a workout machine.
But an hour later I understood the hype.

Strength.

Flexibility.

Balance.

Control.

There’s a reason I recommend it to so many patients.

(I’m still not convinced Jennifer didn’t enjoy watching me struggle.)

Reid.

Achondroplasia.

Arm lengthening has officially begun.

And Reid has stepped into it with determination, patience, and an incredible attitude.

For people with achondroplasia, shorter arms can make everyday things harder: brushing teeth, eating, washing hair, reaching a shelf.

The process is long, tedious, and often uncomfortable.

Tiny daily turns gradually create space for new bone to form. It is a remarkable process, but it demands real patience.

And the outcome?

That new bone is his.
The length is permanent.
The gains in reach, function, and independence last a lifetime.

A long process.
A forever result.

Larsen syndrome is a rare condition that affects the development of the joints and spine, often requiring years of specialized orthopedic care.

People often assume my work happens in the operating room.
It does.

But it also happens here.

A hug.

A moment together.

Orthopedics is equal parts engineering and humanity.
