The Emergency Medical Services Association of Colorado said in a press release that the change covers treatment in place, telemedicine-supported care and transport to alternative destinations when clinically appropriate. Clinicians spend an average of 2.3 hours on the EHR for every eight hours of patient care – and documentation burden is a key driver of clinician burnout in the U.S. A new multisite study published in JAMA offers the largest controlled evidence to date on whether AI scribes can actually change that – and the findings are modest but meaningful, particularly for the clinicians who rely on them most.

A five-site JAMA study found AI scribes reduced EHR time by 13 minutes and documentation time by 16 minutes per day, with the largest gains for primary care clinicians.
