Bleeding disorders do not pause between infusions. They are, by definition, chronic conditions managed over a lifetime.

This Chronic Disease Awareness Month, we want to recognize every patient who shows up for their health week after week because their condition requires it. Managing a bleeding disorder is about more than factor levels and bleed logs. It is about building a full life while navigating something that never entirely steps aside.

Joints are a lifelong conversation in the bleeding disorders community.

July is Juvenile Arthritis Awareness Month, and for many families in the bleeding disorders community, this one resonates.

Recurrent joint bleeds, even small ones, cause long-term damage that closely mirrors what is seen in inflammatory arthritis. For young patients managing hemophilia or VWD, protecting joint health is not just part of their treatment plan. It is one of its defining goals.

Our Points for Healthy Joints program is built around exactly that reality, helping young patients build the habits and support systems that protect joint health for years to come.

The BD community does not take a summer break.

Managing a bleeding disorder is a year-round commitment. So is ours.

This summer, LUX Infusion stays dedicated to the bleeding disorders community through clinical support, advocacy partnerships, and the ongoing infusion care your patients depend on. Whether we are at conferences like FAAIS and IWAA, standing behind NBDF advocacy efforts, or making sure every patient stays on the therapy they need, our work continues.

To the patients, families, caregivers, and clinicians who show up for this community every day: we see you. We are honored to be part of your care team.

Denecimig (Mim8) for Hemophilia A

New data published in the New England Journal of Medicine shows that denecimig, which “mimics” Factor VIII, significantly reduces bleeding for people with Hemophilia A, regardless of inhibitor status.

Participants experienced up to 99% fewer bleeds compared to on-demand treatment and 54% fewer than previous preventive factor therapies.

Between 64-95% of patients reported zero bleeds while on the study.

Success was shown in both once-weekly and once-monthly subcutaneous injections.

Looking to the Future of VWD Care With HMB-002

The conversation around clinical management of VWD has remained the same for quite some time, with few innovations advancing the cause of those suffering from its effects. This may stand to change with a new investigational medication—HMB-002. This monovalent antibody is set to change the landscape from protein replacement to “preserved elevation.”

Instead of adding more factor, HMB-002 binds to your existing VWF, acting as a shield that doubles its time in circulation. It targets the “CK domain,” a region that doesn’t interfere with VWF’s natural ability to carry Factor VIII or seal wounds under high-flow conditions.

Preclinical primate data shows that HMB-002 maintains a twofold increase in VWF and Factor VIII, and researchers hope it will help to reduce the frequency of infusions needed.

Bleeding Disorders and Staying Safe in The Summer

Rising temperatures bring more than just sunshine—they change how you manage your health and medication. Here’s how to stay ahead of the heat:

💧 Stay Hydrated: For those suffering bleeding disorders, getting dehydrated can mean less joint lubrication and risk for damage, as well as becoming a “hard stick” for your infusions.

🌡️ Protect Your Factor: This won’t be the first time you hear this, nor the last: heat is no friend to factor concentrates! Never leave your supplies in a hot car—even short errands can push can push car temps past the stable range for factor proteins.

🛡️ Shield Your Joints: Summer means being outside, and while staying active is important, make sure you stay vigilant in protecting yourself from hard jumps and falls, as well as timing your factor for when you’ll be the most active.

A Milestone in Clotting Science 🩸

A May 2026 study in Science Advances has finally mapped the structure of platelet myosin, the “motor” that drives blood clotting. University of Leeds researchers have visualized exactly how this motor stays folded in “shutdown” state while circulating, and how it flips “on” to seal a wound. Key takeaways are:

• Clotting depends on precision timing. The study identified structural “latches” that keep the motor quiet until a chemical trigger releases them.

• Scientists can now see how mutations in the MYH9 gene can disrupt these latches.

• Many bleeding disorders may be “control problems”—where the motor activates at the wrong time or fails to stay off—rather than just a lack of force or speed.

By exposing the protein’s internal brake system, this research could provide the structural map needed to drive the future of targeted, molecular-level therapies for bleeding disorders.
