Today is a historical day for su***de prevention and mental health in the U.S.! The National Su***de Prevention Lifeline, now known as the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline, can be more easily reached by calling or texting 988, or chatting on 988lifeline.org.

988 serves as a universal entry point so that no matter where you live in the U.S., you can easily access 24/7 emotional support. You do not have to be suicidal to reach out. Our trained crisis counselors can help you through whatever mental health challenges you are experiencing.

We're so grateful to SAMHSA, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Federal Communications Commission, and our other su***de prevention and mental health partners in the field for working together to get us here, and we look forward to growing and expanding our services and supports in the years to come.

“Hormonal”

It's code for mood swings, carb cravings and basically, just not feeling great. But that's not fair or accurate.

Women are hormonal every single day because hormones impact everything that goes on in the body, like emotions, body weight, energy levels, skin and so much more.

When hormones are balanced and cooperating together, you feel great, energized, your weight is healthy, and your cycle is symptom-free.

But when hormones aren't balanced, you can experience low energy, weight trouble, period problems, mood issues, and more.

You may be wondering “Ok, but what are hormones?”

Hormones are chemical messengers, produced and secreted in seven different glands and tissues throughout your entire body. This is called the "Endocrine System”. Every cell has unique receptors to match specific hormones.

The brain orders the production of specific hormones depending on the body's needs. Hormones travel through the bloodstream, looking for their matching cell receptors. When they do, they attach to the cell and give it instructions for how to behave.

May is Mental health awareness month and a great time to learn how what you put in your mouth effects more than just your waistline.

Focus on feeding your microbiome 🦠

Gut bacteria play a critical role in your mood and your mental health.

They can help the symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress subside.

Your diet and the supplements you take can help protect your mental wellbeing because eating the right foods nourishes happy bacteria.

When you have a lot of different healthy bacteria in your gut you will have an increase in some awesome mood-lifting chemical messengers like serotonin(brings about happiness and satisfaction) and GABA(helps to produce a calming effect).

Your Free Spring Meal Plan Is Here!

The leaves are turning green and gardens are starting to bloom, and that means spring is upon us! 🌷🌻🌳

But just like plants, trees and flowers you need to feed your body healthy food to look and feel your best!

I know how hard it can be to plan and follow through with a healthy eating plan. That is why I created this Spring Meal Plan Program! 👏👏👏

If there is one thing successful healthy eaters swear by, it is meal prep. This FREE program will get you back into the habit of meal prepping, eating clean and feeling awesome with three weeks of delicious, Spring-inspired meals all planned out for you. 🫵

All you need to do now is commit to this 3-week challenge. 🤝

Grab the meal plan, grocery list and let's get to it! 🚀

Eating “clean” is a simple, healthy approach to eating that focuses on foods that do the body good, while limiting the not-so-helpful items.

In this clean-eating meal plan for spring, you'll find nutrient-rich foods like fruits and veggies, lean protein, whole grains and healthy fats and limited amounts of processed foods, refined grains, salt, added sugar and alcohol. 👏👏👏

I included seasonal ingredients like green beans, zucchini and greens, that make for a week of fresh meals and snacks.

Don't worry about counting calories or eliminating certain food groups altogether-simply choose wholesome ingredients and see how delicious and easy clean eating can be. 🤗

You can even make some of these meals ahead of time. Store them in our favorite air tight container to keep them fresh.

Our gut contains an estimated 100 trillion microbes, which make up the microbiome. These microbes are mostly bacteria, but there are also some viruses and yeast.

Ideally, the microbiome should have a very diverse population of microbes and most of the microbes should be beneficial, with pathogenic (bad) microbes kept to a minimum.

The microbes are incredibly important, as they participate in or control all of our bodily functions, including:
• Digestion and absorption of nutrients
• Protection of the interior lining of the digestive tract
• Signaling of hunger cues and cravings
• Metabolism
• Detoxification pathways
• Inflammation
• Production of neurotransmitters (brain chemicals)
• Effect on weight, mood, energy levels, cognition, and behavior
• Immunity
• Expression of genes
Gut microbes may be the root cause and solution for many health troubles.

Is snacking a bad thing?

One of the biggest myths about snacking is that it’s bad for our health or weight loss goals.

The truth is snacking itself isn’t bad for us. It’s the junk food people like to snack on that gives snacks a bad name.

If you eat until you are comfortable and not over full at lunch, chances are you’ll need a mid afternoon snack to tide you over until dinner.

The secret is the snack only when you need to and to select a smart snacks.

The perfect snack is one that packs nutritional power without the high calorie price tag.

If your next meal will be more than four hours away plan to have a small healthy snack midway between meals. This will help keep your blood sugar stable which in turn will help with energy levels mental clarity as well as less over eating later on.

To hold hunger at bay and provide a constant supply of energy, you want a snack that includes some carbohydrate, fiber, protein, and a little bit of healthy fat.
