Feeding challenges can look different from child to child, making it important for providers to recognize when picky eating may be something more.

Picky Eating vs. Problem Feeding

Most toddlers go through a picky phase. Sometimes "picky" is something more.

A picky eater has 30+ foods and tolerates new foods on the plate. ✅ Problem feeding looks different: under 20 foods, dropping foods without replacing them, gagging or crying at new foods, whole textures refused entirely.

🌟 Try this at home:

Take the pressure off. Encourage your child to “play” with their food and feed it to others. 🧸 Serve one safe food at every meal alongside what the family eats. No bribing, no "just one bite."

If the food list keeps shrinking, your child is losing weight, or you are concerned with choking, see your pediatrician and seek out help!

This past Saturday, September 12, 2026, the Achieve Beyond team had an incredible time at the Woodside Fair connecting with families, children, and community members throughout Queens.

From sharing information about our pediatric therapy and autism services to meeting wonderful families and handing out fun giveaways, it was a day filled with meaningful conversations and community engagement. We are grateful to everyone who stopped by our booth to learn more about how Achieve Beyond supports children and families.
