The class is filling up and I’m grateful but I still have about five seats left.

Every call, every shift, and every critical incident leaves an imprint on the nervous system. The NEMP Certified Bilateral Regulation Instructor (CBRI) course teaches first responders and nurses simple, evidence-informed techniques to reduce stress, improve resilience, and maintain peak performance under pressure. Graduates gain practical skills they can use immediately and the ability to bring these tools back to strengthen the wellness and readiness of their entire organization.

Bilateral Regulation is a practical, evidence-informed skill that helps individuals regulate their nervous system, reduce stress, and regain focus during and after challenging events. For first responders, dispatchers, and nurses, these techniques can be used following difficult calls, critical incidents, traumatic patient encounters, line-of-duty injuries, officer-involved shootings, or prolonged periods of operational stress. Bilateral Regulation provides a simple, non-clinical tool that can be used individually or with peers to improve emotional regulation, resilience, recovery, and operational readiness while supporting long-term wellness and performance.

We, as leaders, cannot get rid of the stigma unless we are willing to be honest about our own struggles.

Mike Peterson returns to the podcast - He is a Veteran, a federal LEO, and a mindfulness expert who also works in the First Responder Mental Health Field. Mike shares his story with raw, unflinching, honesty – he speaks about his own pathway into service, his military deployments, the hardship and loss he and his fellow soldiers endured – how he reacted to those difficult stressors in real time, and the impact those events had on him in the long term.

Mike also shares about his career in law enforcement, how eventually he began leaning into the bottle and relying on booze to avoid the mounting pressures, developed discomfort, irritability, and behavior changes often associated with years of service. Mike explains that he came to recognize a struggle within himself, shares what led him to begin addressing those issues, and how he now helps others to do their own work.

He also talks about mindfulness, and suggests that we all could benefit from learning how to better engage with our thinking brain, from breathing with intention, from applying logic to stressors that want to activate us in ways that cause emotional reactions, rather than critical thought, problem solving, resolution of internal discomfort, and forward movement.

Different uniforms. Similar nervous systems.

Law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS professionals, dispatchers, emergency department nurses, corrections professionals, and veterans are routinely exposed to stress, trauma, and high-pressure decision-making environments.

While every profession faces unique challenges, the effects of operational stress often look the same: fatigue, hypervigilance, burnout, impaired focus, emotional exhaustion, and difficulty recovering after difficult events.
That is why I am excited to introduce the NEMP Certified Bilateral Regulation Instructor (CBRI) Program.

The CBRI program is a practical, hands-on training designed to help public safety professionals understand stress, regulate their nervous system, enhance performance, and improve recovery through evidence-informed bilateral regulation techniques.

This is not a lecture-heavy wellness course.
Participants learn the science, practice the skills, coach their peers, and apply techniques through realistic public safety scenarios.

Our mission is simple:
Performance. Regulation. Resilience.

Because the people who spend their careers caring for others deserve practical tools to care for themselves.

If you are interested in bringing this training to your agency, department, hospital, communications center, organization, or team, I would welcome the opportunity to connect.
