The new offshore weight restrictions are here. Do you know what they mean for your people?

The 124kg clothed weight limit is coming into effect on 1st November and for HR and personnel logistics teams, that brings new questions around how to support employees and make the right decisions.

On 19 November at Duncano's we’re bringing the experts together to help answer them.

Hear from Emma Galashan, our Counsellor, Tom Rowland, our Occupational Health Doctor, Gillian Donald, Employment Lawyer at Blackadders Solicitors and Fiona Hogg, Senior Chartered Physiotherapist at Robust Physiotherapy.

Together, they’ll explore the occupational health and mental wellbeing impact, employment law and workplace considerations, and physical capability, mobility and workforce readiness.

At the end, there will be a live Q+A, giving you the opportunity to put your questions and challenges directly to the panel.

Bring your questions and we’ll bring the experts.

Only 2 weeks to go until Jen takes the jump 🪂

We caught up with Jen chatting about the upcoming Skydive, giving an in depth view look into why she is doing it and the amazing causes she is raising money for! 🎯

Want to support? Every donation, big or small, goes a long way for both of these fantastic charities - Pancreatic Cancer UK and Inverurie Community Recovery. See the link below to donate. 📱

Let’s get her over that finish line (and both feet safety back on the ground) 💯

Protecting health at work, for as long as it takes 💜

At Granite Occupational Health, Jen McHugh, Monica Walker and the wider team make sure our clients can speak directly to qualified clinicians, get clear answers and receive the support they need.

We keep space for last-minute requests, turn results around quickly and, when the situation calls for it, apply clinical judgement to make sure people get the right support.

A medical clearance is needed at short notice, someone is ready to return to work, or an employee needs support with a sensitive health matter. Whatever the situation, there is a person behind it who needs the right answer, at the right time.

That’s why we’re so grateful to the clients who trust us to be there, and this Occupational Health Awareness Week, we’re saying a huge thank you to all of you.

Thank you for putting your trust in us.

A new offshore weight requirement is coming into effect on 1 November 2026

From this date, a maximum clothed weight of 124kg (19.53 stone) will apply to workers travelling offshore by helicopter.

Granite Occupational Health can help employers and employees navigate the change, with support including lifestyle, dietary and exercise coaching, alongside confidential mental health and wellbeing support.

With around 5% of the offshore workforce currently above the new threshold, the change will affect a number of workers in different ways.

So, what exactly is changing, who is affected and how can employers support their workforce?

We’ve broken down the new requirements and what they mean for offshore workers and employers in our latest blog. Are your employees regularly working with vibrating tools?

Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) can have a lasting impact on workers’ health, which is why effective health surveillance is an important part of managing vibration risks.

Under the Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005, employers should provide suitable health surveillance where workers are at risk from vibration or are likely to be exposed at or above the Exposure Action Value of 2.5 m/s² A (8).

The HSE recommends a five-tier approach, from initial and annual questionnaires through to clinical assessment, diagnosis and specialist testing where appropriate.

At Granite Occupational Health, our experienced clinicians ask the right questions, apply sound clinical judgement and give employers clear answers so they can make informed decisions about their people.

Because behind every referral is a person’s health, livelihood and future.

We have been loving the warm weather this summer, even Aberdeen has been basking the sunshine! ☀️

As temperatures rise, it's important businesses are aware of the potential risks for those working outdoors or in physically demanding industrial environments.

Factors to consider when working in the heat include:
- Fatigue
- Dehydration
- PPE discomfort
- Reduced concentration, which can increase the likelihood of accidents

Simple measures can make a big difference, including encouraging regular hydration, providing shaded rest areas, scheduling breaks, adjusting workloads where possible and ensuring colleagues look out for one another.

If your business needs advice on working in the heat or a general consultation, we are here to support you. Get in touch with us today: https://graniteoh.co.uk/?utm_source=LinkedIn&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=working%20in%20heat -9dad-4189-b4e0-e8550a2858e2
