Botox can help improve the appearance of jowls in the right patient, but not all jowls are created equal.

If your jowls are being pulled downward by overactive depressor muscles such as the DAO and platysma, Botox may help restore balance and improve jawline definition.

But if you have significant skin laxity, redundant tissue, volume loss, or structural changes from aging, the solution is often more than just Botox.

I draw dots on my face to teach anatomy because visual learning helps people understand what lies beneath the skin.

But Botox isn’t about memorizing dots.

Social media has made facial mapping look simple. Draw a few dots, inject here, and get a brow lift. In reality, the difference between a beautiful brow lift, an “angry bird” brow, brow ptosis, or eyelid ptosis can be just a few millimeters.

Every patient has unique anatomy, muscle strength, brow position, facial asymmetries, and treatment goals. A proper assessment includes a physical exam, evaluating muscle movement in, and understanding a patient’s history of prior Botox treatments, filler, brow lifts, eyelid surgery, and other facial procedures that may affect the result.

The dots are simply a teaching tool.

Understanding the anatomy beneath them is what creates safe, predictable, and natural-looking results.

Botox doesn’t make you look older.
Over-treating muscles might.
Muscle isn’t just for movement. It also provides support beneath the skin. The goal shouldn’t be freezing every line. It should be respecting muscle function, preserving natural expression, and creating balance.

If you felt like microneedling didn’t do much for your skin, don’t give up after one treatment.
Microneedling is not a one-and-done procedure. It’s a process.
The goal is to create controlled micro-injuries that stimulate your skin’s natural healing response. Over time, that healing response helps build collagen and elastin, improving skin quality, texture, and resilience.
Think of microneedling like going to the gym. One workout won’t transform your body, and one treatment won’t transform your skin. The real benefits come from consistency and giving your skin time to repair and remodel.
Microneedling is best viewed as maintenance for your skin. Depending on your goals and needs, treatments can be repeated every 2-4 months to continue supporting collagen production and overall skin health.
The treatment is the stimulus. The improvement happens during the healing that follows.

These are some of my favorite Botox treatments for creating subtle lift and improving lower-face mechanics.

Not everyone is a candidate, and these treatments work best in mild cases where muscle pull is contributing to the concern.

A proper evaluation is essential to determine whether Botox alone can help or if other treatments may be more appropriate.

The key is understanding the underlying anatomy and choosing the right treatment for the right patient.

Wrinkle treatment is just a nice side effect. The real magic is muscle modulation to allow the elevator muscle to dominate and lift.

Most people think Botox is about treating wrinkles.

That’s actually a nice side effect.

The real benefit is changing the mechanics of facial movement. By relaxing the muscles that pull the brows downward, Botox can create a subtle mechanical lift that helps open the eyes and improve hooding.
