Juneteenth commemorates a significant moment in our nation’s history and is as an opportunity to reflect on the enduring strength, resilience and contributions of Black Americans throughout generations.

At Central Health, our mission is rooted in serving people and strengthening communities. We believe that listening, understanding and meeting people where they are helps create healthier futures for all.

As we observe Juneteenth, we reflect on the importance of connection, compassion and service, and reaffirm our commitment to improving the health and well-being of those we are fortunate to serve every day.

A cataract happens when the lens of your eye, which is normally clear, becomes cloudy. Although most cataracts develop slowly, they impact vision overtime and can make it hard to read, drive at night or perform other activities.

Getting a yearly vision exam can help your doctor catch and manage cataracts before they start to affect your quality of life. Talk to your doctor if you notice any changes in your vision, like light sensitivity, double or blurry vision, or trouble seeing at night.

This Men's Health Month, we're reminding men to take care of yourselves. You don't have to wait until you're seriously ill or in pain to visit your doctor; in fact, you should be going to the doctor for a routine exam every year!

A study from the Cleveland Clinic showed that many men in the U.S. aren't prioritizing their health. In addition to skipping their yearly checkups, 44% don't take care of their mental health and 49% don't eat a healthy diet.

It's not selfish to take care of your mental and physical health – your loved ones will thank you for taking steps to live well.

As summer heats up in Riverside County, The Salvation Army Southern California is prepared to serve families in need thanks to a new refrigerated service truck made possible through a collaboration with Molina Healthcare of California.

The truck supports a shared mission to care for the community by providing access to resources like fresh produce, dairy and other items that can easily spoil when transported in excessive heat.

“Molina shares The Salvation Army’s dedication to improving the health and well-being of underserved communities,” said Abbie Totten, plan president of Molina Healthcare of California. “We are grateful for the opportunity to join in this mission to ensure access to fresh, nutritious food and help families in our community thrive.”

Knowing what to do in a choking emergency can save a life. On Heimlich Maneuver Day, take a moment to learn the difference between helping an infant and helping older children or adults.

For babies under 1 year: Use a combination of back blows and chest thrusts — not abdominal thrusts (the Heimlich maneuver).

For children over 1 and adults: Use abdominal thrusts (the Heimlich maneuver) if they are choking and unable to breathe or speak.

Call 911 if the person becomes unconscious or if the object doesn’t come out.

A few minutes of learning today could make all the difference tomorrow.
