I wasn't sure if I wanted to talk about this, but I haven't been able to just "let it go". Apparently, I need to really look at this, whatever this is, and do my own work around it.
Not all of my clients are seen in my office or on zoom. I go to places to teach classes, workshops and do group tapping sessions. Yesterday, I had a group tapping session away from my office.
When I got to my location, parking was a little challenging. The lot that I had parked in before had all of the visitor spots full so I pulled next to a truck that was parked in an unmarked spot. The other vehicle was there, so why not. As I got out of my car an older man started yelling at me about where I had parked, that I couldn't park there. (a minute or 2 into his rant he revealed that the truck I parked next to was his) I asked him politely 3 times "Sir, please quit yelling at me" he continued yelling and approaching me aggressively, finger pointing and all. I snapped. I yelled back at him to get the F* out of my face at which point a young relative asked me to stop talking to her (relative) that way. I told her to get him out of my face. She did not act and the man continued to yell and approach me aggressively to the point that as I got back into my car he inserted himself between my open car door and the car with his hand on the inside door handle, still yelling and a foot from my face. I grabbed my door and pulled it closed as hard as I could not caring if he got injured in the process. The whole incident, which only lasted a couple minutes left me a wreck 😵💫 (remember, I was on my way to do a group tapping) My nervous system lost its mind and I was crying and shaking. I was fortunate that the person I coordinate with for this group was there and bought me a few minutes to get myself together so I could work.
Here's the thing, it's a day later and I keep going back to it. I keep hearing him yelling. The tears keep showing up. That's not an event, that's trauma. But what triggered in me that this happening is living rent free in my system? Why am I unable to leave it at some cranky old man with a huge ego who's too big for his britches shooting his mouth off, and go on with my life?
I am not proud of how I handled the situation. I teach people the power of the pause, responding versus reacting, I know this stuff and (for the most part it seems) am able to live it. So why not this time?
Things come to us to point out what we still need to learn. It appears to be my turn to sit with the discomfort of learning to advance to the opportunity for healing.
I will be fine and the man in question has been dealt with. I know at the very least he was called out for his behavior which is more than happens to people like him most of the time. It was obvious this is not the first time he has behaved this way. He was way too comfortable with it.
Time for some self examination 🧘♂️
