I had the privilege of going to The Sight and Sound to see Joshua. It was absolutely an amazing experience.
I happened to hear someone wondering about what their personal legacy would be. I have pondered this question after hearing this discussion and my thoughts are:
In the Bible (also a very moving part of the Joshua play) Rahab was a pr******te. She protected the spy’s sent by Joshua to check out the city of Jericho. Because she did this God spared her when the city was destroyed. Not only that but Jesus is a direct descendant of Rahab. Do you think, in a million years, she ever imagined that her legacy would be part of the blood line that the Messiah would come from? My guess would be she spent the rest of her life simply trying to remove the prostitution label from her life. God saw her heart. He knew her by name and He had a plan that she couldn’t even fathom.
We can’t plan our legacy. Yes, We should try to live a life of integrity, kindness and love. Who knows what else will come from our lives. Children or children’s children may become the future person that evangelizes many people, finds a cure for cancer or diseases, or something else amazing. If you don’t have children maybe you have made a difference in someone’s life who goes on to do one of those things. Maybe you just live a quiet life of integrity showing love to those around you. People strive for fortune and fame, but ask yourself, what is truly important in life.
God knew Rahab’s life but He saw her heart. I bet her life was difficult because people can be cruel. She died not even knowing her legacy. God lifted her up and brought forth Jesus forming her legacy. Yet she never knew that while living on earth.
