In these times of upheaval and stress, I find it important to connect with myself, to shut out all the buzzing and chatter and just connect with me and what's going on right now. Some days are harder than others but I find just trying helps me feel better and more at ease. Try to sit quietly and take three deep breaths. Just focus on the breath going into your body and then leaving your body. Let me know if you find that it helps.

To all my friends in the Connecticut area-I am hosting a screening of a documentary called May I Be Happy on Sunday, June 3rd at 4:30 and Wednesday, June 13th at noon. It's a wonderful film about Mindfulness and children. I'm showing it at the Weston Library at 56 Norfield Road in Weston. The film was directed and produced by graduates of the Mindful Schools program where I got my certification. It's a lovely film. I find this so interesting and it really helps me to think about why I go on social media sites. I feel lucky that nearly everyone in my feed is a kind, loving, supportive person. OR they just don't post mean, provocative things on my wall. Thank god! I think if I was met with a lot of negativity, I'd rethink the whole thing!

Check out this trailer of a movie about mindfulness. It has me so inspired. I believe that our children need help with attending to their stress, tools to regulate their emotions, modeling positive and kind interactions and just being ok with being with themselves. We as a community can all help them with these things. Now more than ever, the children of our world need our help.

Today I found myself so on edge. Once I realized it, I took a few minutes to breathe and check in with myself. I had to remind myself that everything is all right at this moment. And don't forget to breathe. And relax my shoulders, which were up around my ears!!

I've been struggling with practicing mindfulness these last couple of weeks. But this morning I hit my wall. I knew I needed to get back to it. The only time I had was when I was at the dentist getting a crown started. They kept asking if I wanted headphones, music, TV. I kept saying no thank you. I took the time to do some mindful breathing and really focus on being present even for the drilling. I found myself anticipating the pain, even though I had novocain. I reminded myself to relax, let my shoulders drop. It really helped!

It's Back to School time. Remember to help our kids with their stress and anxiety. Remind them to breathe. Remind them to hang with the kids who are nice to them and others. Remind them that they just need to do the best they can do. Some days we do better than others. Let's ease back into the school year. Smooth transitions for you all.
