From fight, flight, freeze, faun to grounded and integrating(healing)- a glimpse into my journey with reiki..
For many years, my nervous system was dysregulated. I struggled and suffered with CPTSD and it's related symptoms. For me, this looked like:
*Difficulties falling asleep and waking often or sleeping more than needed.
*Racing thoughts, increased heart rate and erratic breathing.
*Constant checking of surroundings for "danger," also known as hypervigilance.
*Challenges in all relationships, most importantly, with myself, stemming from mistrust.
*Dissociating- seeming fine on the outside and suffering on the inside.
While I'm still working on the integration of emotions (healing) that were the cause, I'm in a much more grounded state far more often than I've ever been. And I tried so many different ways to "feel better" and/or numb:
*traditional talk therapy
*self medicating: alcohol, s*x, and exercise all in excess
*homeopathic remedies as well as some prescription medicine, although the latter was only touched upon briefly as my body is very sensitive to most pharmaceuticals that I've tried.
When I learned of and was attuned to reiki about 8 years ago, my whole world began to shift. Today, this looks like:
*deeper, more consistent sleep
*reconnection and grounding through nature in a multitude of ways
*healthier, more mutually beneficial relationships with challenges that allow growth and expansion
*unlearning unhealthy and toxic habits by looking inwards
I wonder how many of you can relate to any of these feelings and behaviors? While my story isn't the same as yours (how could it be?!), our emotions and reactions to those emotions might look very similar.
And I wonder if you would want to walk down a path with me to discover if reiki might also help you to uncover, discover and reconnect to yourself.
Please reach out and let me know when you want to begin down this path to a more grounded, more connected you.
