Sometimes life brings you obstacles that seem insurmountable. Yet it is how your mind deals with it that determines the outcome. Staying curious, positive and looking for the possibilities of HOW these obstacles serve you, is the key that unlocks the door to a future you could not expect.

“Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious. And however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at. It matters that you don’t just give up.” ~ Stephan Hawkings

Changing self

Why is it so hard?

Changing aspects of self that we do not like can seem like a damn near herculean task. A pattern, a behavior we do not like that we try to change so many times can frustrate the living daylights out of us. Whether it is excessive consumption of things, procrastination, fears and phobias, lack of motivation, it is so frustrating to not be able to change. Over time we begin to feel a failure, ashamed of our own inability to transform ourselves. Yet, other times, with ease and grace, we seem to be able to flip the pattern easily. Why?

You see, there are two parts of the mind we navigate life with but are aware of only one. These two parts of the mind look at the facts on the table very differently and this is the root of why making change is so difficult. One part of the mind, the self-conscious, is busy analyzing, labelling, and recording the events of life in picture perfect detail. The other, subconscious, observes through deductive observation the way you felt about the event. These two aspects of the mind process completely differently the same set of events, unless you train yourself to direct them appropriately. Your self-conscious mind is fed through the five senses and your fight or flight mechanism all that it perceives. However, your responses to those events are rarely a result of what is happening in that moment. For most, the response is a result of a similarly encountered feeling(s) from a previous past event stored in the subconscious mind that observes that when a feeling is felt, triggered by fight or flight in the moment, it activates a pattern from the past to reduce the perceived threat. Yes, one part of the mind perceives the event as isolated, while the other sees it as the same as event that may go all the way back to seed events from childhood. The difference in how these two parts of the mind respond is the challenge that we face. The part that deduces from observation, simply reacts instantly to solve the potential threat to self. Whereas the analytical part is trying to solve the problem through rationalizations and justifications without proper understanding that feelings from the past are altering the truth of what is really happening in front of us.

Once we understand the mind properly, we begin to disentangle from the web of our limited beliefs and fear-based patterns. This proper understanding of the mind is what we ground our clients in at Thought Alchemy’s Transformation Center, once this understanding is anchored in the mind, we can rapidly shift the faulty pattern into a more positive response through hypnosis. This is what makes hypnotherapy so effective.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

I say this all the time to my students and my clients, “life is not what we think, but what we feel,” yet for so many this is so hard to grasp. What we feel, where we feel, when we feel, why we feel and who we feel, is all tied to the past, not the present. And it is these experiences of the past that shapes our reality, or as I prefer to say, “our perspectives,” but that is not truth.

Truth is something you can only achieve when you dissolve the illusions of the past by understanding the mind and “how” it truly works and what it has created “for you.” Once you begin this process you open to an entirely different journey. Life’s puzzle begins to be grasped with curiosity and openness guiding your journey, instead of your limited beliefs and fears.

This does not mean the difficulties of life will disappear, but you handle them differently for you understand they are being drawn to you for a reason, and you handle them ...with curiosity. And this is when the flower opens.

Have a beautiful day!

Once we understand that all thought is preceded by a feeling, the next question we must ask is where does that feeling emanate? Is it a feeling being stirred from the past, triggering a behavior that is a result of an imprint, be it good or bad, resulting in an action that is automatic? Or is it a feeling guided to us that is asking us to examine our thoughts and actions so that we may choose a different result?

Awareness is the result of understanding that the mind is a tool, not to be surrendered to, but to be utilized by our higher reasoning faculty in conjunction with our intuition. Intuition is an inner knowing, dramatically different from what the rational mind can grasp. Feeling is something that is always guided to us to enable awakening, whether felt as an imprint or something profoundly new.

When we choose to react to our feelings, we simply live stuck in the pendulum swing of life, but when we choose to observe those feelings and our reactions, opting for a better understanding of their source, we begin the process of claiming dominion over our lives through higher consciousness. And, dominion must not be confused with control, rather it is a state of surrender to a part of you that knows.

Discerning with the Rational Mind

Until you understand how your mind works, it is almost impossible to discern clearly what is happening in your life and why. Your rational mind is tool used for survival or better explained as a problem-solving tool based upon your feelings, not your intellect.

Unfortunately, rather than as a tool, most of humanity allows it to run the show. You see the part of your mind that does all the learning, your subconscious part of the mind, figures out the importance of your life events based upon how they feel, this decides the degree of our “fight or flight” response. As I say to my clients, if you are good in Math, it is not just that you have an aptitude for math, but that you were praised by a teacher, a parent or some authority figure, and the subconscious part of your mind says “oh, math feels good…do more math”.

Likewise, if you are bad in math, it may have nothing to do with your aptitude, but more to do with a bad math teacher, a hyper critical parent or being compared to another sibling, and suddenly math does not feel good so your subconscious mind creates a pattern that blocks doing good in math.

Until you understand that the subconscious part of the mind is faster than your conscious mind and that it works with only feelings, you cannot understand why your fears are controlling you. The rational mind is a tool to problem solve against those good or bad feelings you have, and it is not aware that the response generated is not connected to what is happening in the moment, but rather the feelings created in the past.

This is why we must learn to be observers of our feelings, and discern what is really happening, then take a proper response to the situation happening in the moment, or what we call higher reasoning. This is the whole point of our lives and what is meant by becoming consciously aware. Once understood we begin to have a different view of our reality. Pattern responses can change and one of the best tools for this transformation process is hypnotherapy.

Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool aiding people in re-routing these responses in a healthier more positive way. The key is understanding how the pattern formed. This is what we do at Thought Alchemy’s Transformation Center.

In the depths of our heart the lamp of the soul is burning, never is the lamp extinguished, no matter how dark life may seem.

As humans we so often fail to understand God’s perfect plan, lamenting the pain and suffering we experience, our doubts begin to build and the momentum thus gaining, takes us down the road necessary for our Light to grow.

The higher we are meant to climb it seems the deeper we must descend to reach those heights for the fire to do its work. Once shaped and perfected we are able to absorb and reflect more light than we possibly could imagine.

Yet during these times of fire the world seems unjust and unfair. Sometimes we look at the tragedies in other lives and wonder why we have good fortune and begin the process of self-punishment for the goodness bestowed upon us, all because we are unable to step back and see how the pieces to the puzzle fit together.

We must understand that one soul’s tragedy opens the door for Light and the flow of goodness, whether it be our own or another’s, this is the cycle of life. If only we could step back and observe this grand process in its completeness, then we would so willingly step into our dark nights for the “Glory” it brings.

Each soul must endure many dark nights and through the storms that are weathered, access is granted into the mysteries that bring to us the understanding and wisdom of an enlightened being.

Know that during these times God is preparing to bring the “Glory”. With each walk of a “Dark Night” we comprehend more and more the “Glory of the Dark Night of the Soul”. The laws begin to be understood and our connection to the past no longer carries the same degree of pain and with it the promise of the removal of that pain all together.

My love to you all

Dr. Milton Erickson defined hypnosis as a simple form of communication where you could concentrate on your thoughts and beliefs about life and shift them appropriately. He said that a “trance state is active unconscious learning”. He deviated from the psychiatric community’s definition of Unconsciousness and held the belief that this part of Consciousness possessed many abilities and tapped into the potential and wisdom that every human being has available within them. This position is the reason why it took so long for his work to be embraced and is still to this day an intellectual debate within the field of psychiatry and psychology today.

Dr. Erickson knew what students of The Teachings have known for hundreds and hundreds of years, that our Subconscious mind is a perfect power and that our Superconsciousness, collectively known with Subconsciousness by the therapy community as the unconscious mind, holds access to all the wisdom and potential that an individual may access. He leveraged this understanding while a client was in trance, knowing that while the client was induced with the concrete mind and external awareness held in suspension and the internal awareness of the subconscious mind placed into a state of focused attention, that appropriate suggestions could be introduced to the subconscious mind with the goal of achieving the clients goal.

Additionally, it was Dr. Erickson's belief that no individual should require extensive therapy to resolve the problems brought to the good doctor's office. With the exception of the very severely mentally disabled, most patients who had a sincere desire for their problems to resolve would be assisted in a minimal number of sessions. Erickson was an enigma to his colleagues. Even to this day his work defies scientific explanation, for science still cannot prove what hypnotherapists around the world know, that our consciousness is tied to a higher power, and that through hypnosis, when our subconscious mind and its keen powers of observation is focused in a hypnotic state and the discernment and discrimination of a qualified hypnotherapist directs appropriate suggestions toward that state, will always result in positive change.

Erickson's documented successes far exceeded the successful therapeutic interventions of any other therapist of his time and since. His phenomenal powers of observation and understanding of consciousness, combined with his understanding of human nature and the belief that the ability to heal resides within the power of each individuals consciousness is the reason why his hypnotic methods are being utilized today at Thought Alchemy’s Tranformational Hypnosis Center.
