This is so true and unfortunately not all therapists, even those who say they are trauma therapists, can do it. It takes constant work on yourself so that your own discomfort doesn't get in the way of your presence with clients.

So much of therapy in our culture has become about advice, coping skills, and trying to “fix” what we feel as quickly as possible. While those things can have their place, meaningful change often happens somewhere deeper.

In experiential therapy, we pay attention to what is happening in the moment — the emotions, body sensations, impulses, reactions, and patterns that emerge in real time. Instead of rushing past them or analyzing them from a distance, we slow down enough to truly notice them.

Why does this matter? Because insight alone doesn’t always create change. Many people already understand why they struggle, yet still feel stuck in the same emotional patterns. Working with what arises in the present moment can help create new emotional experiences, deeper self-awareness, and a greater capacity to stay connected to yourself rather than automatically reacting, avoiding, or shutting down.

Therapy doesn’t always need more fixing. Sometimes it needs more presence, curiosity, and space for what is already trying to emerge.

Protocols can absolutely be valuable. Structure matters. Safety matters. Dissociation matters. Pacing matters. But when protocols become rigid ideology, clinicians can stop listening to the actual person in front of them.

Co-regulation is at the heart of trauma-informed care. Healing doesn’t happen in isolation—it happens in connection. When a nervous system has learned to live in survival mode, it often can’t just “calm down” on its own. It needs another regulated, attuned presence to help it feel safe enough to settle.

✨I’m currently accepting a small number of clients who are looking for depth work—the kind of therapy that goes beyond insight and into real, meaningful change.

My work is experiential and integrative, drawing from parts work, somatic awareness, and Brainspotting to help you slow down, connect inward, and process what’s been held beneath the surface.

I’m also beginning to offer ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) for those who feel called to a deeper, supported exploration.

This work isn’t about quick fixes—it’s about creating space for what’s real, moving through it with support, and allowing something new to emerge.

If you’re feeling ready for that kind of process, you’re welcome to reach out. https://sarahclinelcsw.com/sarah-cline/

Parenting is full of love and responsibility but you can’t pour from an empty cup ☕

Taking time for yourself, whether it’s visiting places you love, catching up with friends, or exploring your feelings in therapy, helps you recharge and show up more fully for your family.

👀✨Brainspotting is a focused, body-based therapy using eye position and mindful attunement that helps access and process experiences stored beyond words. By gently guiding attention to where your eyes naturally land, we tap into deeper parts of the brain where trauma, stress, and emotional pain can live. From there, your system does the work of releasing, integrating, and healing—at its own pace, in a way that feels grounded and real.
