Spring is here 🌸☀️ and that means it’s time to get moving again!

We’re seeing more patients hitting the courts for pickleball, basketball, walks, and all other different outdoor workouts… but with that comes a rise in foot and ankle injuries 👣

Common pickleball injuries we’re treating this season:• Plantar fasciitis (heel pain)• Ankle sprains• Achilles tendonitis• Stress fractures

Quick tips to stay in the game:✅ Wear supportive, well-fitting shoes (court shoes > running shoes!)✅ Stretch before and after playing✅ Ease back into activity… don’t go from 0 to 100!✅ Listen to your body. Pain is your warning sign

If something doesn’t feel right, don’t wait. Early treatment can prevent bigger problems later.

Gout is a type of inflammatory arthritis caused by high uric acid levels. When uric acid builds up, it can form sharp crystals in the joints, often the big toe, leading to sudden, intense pain, redness, and swelling.

Gout flares often increase during the holidays because meals tend to be higher in purines (red meat, lamb, organ meats, shellfish, rich gravies) and alcohol intake rises. Beer, wine, and spirits can interfere with how your body clears uric acid, making flares more likely.

Tips to Reduce Holiday Gout Flares
1. Stay hydrated.
2. Limit alcohol—especially beer and liquor.
3. Watch portion sizes of high-purine foods.
4. Choose more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy.

If you have questions, symptoms, or concerns about gout or foot pain, schedule a visit with a podiatrist. We’re here to help keep you comfortable and on your feet. Happy holidays!

We asked Dr. Ali and Dr. Luu for winter diabetic footcare “must haves.”
1) Breathable socks. Look for wool or moisture-wicking. (Dr. Luu suggests white socks to quickly see any bleeding or drainage on the fabric).
2) Shoes. To prevent issues such as ulcers, select seamless, well cushioned, well fitting & supportive footwear made out of breathable materials. A podiatrist can help you find the right pair for you!
3) An absorbent towel. Foot hygiene is very important. Wash your feet daily with warm water, and dry them well!
4) Hydrating foot cream. To prevent dryness and cracking, apply cream (everywhere except in between toes) especially on heels and soles.
5) A magnifying mirror to help with daily foot inspections.
6) Schedule your annual foot exam! 1-630-668-8277
