When a tree's leaves start browning, you don't treat the leaves; you think about the roots. Do they need water or fertilizer? Is it the soil that's feeding the tree?
The connection between your gut and brain is similar. Your gut is the root of your brain. Inflammation that begins in the gut doesn't stay there — it sends signals that enter the brain and can show up as fog, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating.
For years, I was told my gut symptoms were "probably just a virus," and the pattern repeated over and over. Over 20 years later, I learned I had Celiac disease — and once I removed the gluten trigger, my thinking cleared, and my mood improved, without me even realizing there was a problem.
This is exactly why I begin with the gut when I investigate brain fog. It isn't something that should be left until later.
