Our History
In 1963, family members of individuals with disabilities came together to build a safe, accessible summer camp for their children. Since then, Courageous Community Services has continued to ensure that children, teenagers, and adults with disabilities have the opportunity to attend summer camp and experience that overwhelming feeling of community. Over the years, Courageous Community S

ervices has increased our program offerings and upgraded our facilities to continue to provide high-quality support to people with disabilities and their families in Northwest Ohio.

Learn more about Peer Buddies!
Peer Buddies are neurotypical children ages 7 through 17. These individuals join us for the day camp sessions and work cooperatively with their assigned Courageous Acres Counselor to provide a meaningful camping experience for one peer with disabilities within the same age range. The Peer Buddy must be positive, enthusiastic role models and friends to our campers and have a caring, compassionate heart.
A Peer Buddy is a volunteer that is a typically developing, same-aged student that is paired up with a camper with a disability at Courageous Acres. Being a peer buddy encourages positive social interactions and social relationships to develop between students with and without disabilities.

A HUGE thank you to Tri-County Block & Brick for hosting their golf event benefiting camp! Your generosity and commitment to our community will make a meaningful difference in the lives of the individuals we serve.

Camp is about so much more than a summer getaway. It’s a place where people can build friendships, try new things, experience independence, create lasting memories, and simply be themselves in a safe and welcoming environment.
