ACCLAIMED CELLIST BEN SOLLEE TO PERFORM FREE CONCERT TONIGHT IN DOWNTOWN WHITESBURG
The Levitt AMP Whitesburg Music Series continues tonight (June 11) with a free performance by acclaimed Kentucky cellist, singer-songwriter, and composer Ben Sollee.
A Lexington native now based in Louisville, Sollee is known for his unique musical style that blends folk, bluegrass, jazz, R&B, and Americana influences. His innovative approach to the cello has earned national recognition, incorporating banjo, guitar, mandolin, percussion, and unconventional cello techniques into his performances.
Sollee's live shows are celebrated for their energy, storytelling, and audience connection. Rather than treating the cello as a traditional orchestral instrument, he uses it as a versatile musical tool—leading melodies, providing rhythm, and creating sounds that cross genres and expectations.
Levitt Amp concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. with an opening act, followed by the headliner taking the Mountain Heritage Stage at 7:30 p.m.
The Levitt AMP Whitesburg Music Series is supported in part by the Levitt Family Foundation, which partners with changemakers and nonprofits to strengthen the social fabric of communities in America through free, live music in outdoor public spaces. In 2026, the Levitt Family Foundation is supporting over 900 free concerts in over 90 towns and cities across the country.
The Levitt AMP Whitesburg Music Series is a project of the Cowan Community Center with partners the City of Whitesburg, the Mountain Heritage Festival Committee, Letcher Tourism, Whitesburg Farmers Market, Appalshop and CANE Kitchen.
