Join us in welcoming Tripp Owings as the new Chief Executive Officer of Ascension Via Christi, effective July 6.

Tripp brings more than 16 years of healthcare leadership experience and returns to Kansas after most recently serving as CEO of HCA Florida Brandon Hospital. He is familiar with the Wichita community, having spent seven years in leadership roles with Wesley Healthcare, including serving as CEO of Wesley Woodlawn Hospital and helping lead the design and construction of Wesley Children's Hospital.

As CEO, Tripp will lead more than 5,650 associates, six hospitals and more than 75 sites of care across Kansas as we continue our mission of delivering compassionate, personalized care to the communities we serve.

At Via Christi, our ministry is rooted in a commitment to deliver compassionate, personalized care to all, with special attention to those who are most vulnerable. True advocacy means looking out for our patients both inside and outside our hospital walls.

Tuesday, our advocacy and legal leaders met with members of the Kansas Business Roundtable at Hinkle Law Firm LLC in Wichita to advocate for our patients' rights. We shared our strong support for the Kansas Surrogate Medical Decisions Act.

Currently, when an incapacitated patient arrives at a facility like Via Christi St. Francis without a designated healthcare agent or proxy, routine medical choices can face heartbreaking delays while providers and families navigate the complex court guardianship process. This proposed legislation changes that by establishing a safe, compassionate framework so a patient's loved ones can legally and efficiently speak on their behalf, ensuring their personal wishes and values are always honored.

We know that reforming state policy is a long journey, but it is the right thing to do. We are dedicated to standing as a proactive voice for the dignity, safety and autonomy of every Kansan we serve.

Throughout June, purple lights illuminate Via Christi St. Francis in recognition of Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month and Cancer Survivor Awareness Month in a dual tribute to resilience, early detection and compassionate care.

🧠 Alzheimer’s disease is the leading cause of dementia and impacts more than 6 million Americans. Early signs can include memory changes, confusion or difficulty with balance and coordination. Seeking care early may help patients and families better manage symptoms and improve quality of life.

🏵️ Cancer survivorship comes with its own challenges. Many survivors continue to experience fatigue, pain, swelling or cognitive changes long after treatment. Continued rehabilitation and supportive care can help patients regain strength, mobility and confidence.

🎉 HAPPY RETIREMENT, TERRI! 🎉

After more than 45 years of love, laughter, and a teacher's dedication, Terri Wittrig retired from Via Christi Child Development Center (CDC) last week.

Terri served at the CDC since it opened its doors in 1980. Her journey with childcare actually started with a little "trickery" back in the 1970s, when she used to pretend to be sick just so she could stay home and help out at her mom’s daycare center in Massachusetts!

From working the 4 p.m. to midnight shift in the early days (putting kiddos in their jammies and tucking them into bed) to taking unforgettable field trips to see Santa at Twin Lakes Mall, Terri has been a cornerstone of the CDC community.

For over four decades, Terri formed unbreakable bonds with Via Christi parents and children. She watched her toddlers grow up, become Via Christi associates themselves, and bring their children back to her classroom.

"The love that parents have for their children and the love I have for their children … I still have bonds with the kids, even when they’re not in my class anymore. I love when they see me in the hallway and run up and give me a hug," says Terri.

Terri’s impact is so deep that one of her former Pre-K students even served as the flower girl in her wedding!

"Terri has truly contributed to making the CDC what it is today," says CDC Director Erica Rubin. "Her dedication is admirable ... it is clear that she feels deeply connected to the center and consistently goes above and beyond."

Terri, thank you for teaching, comforting, and loving our little ones for nearly half a century. You have shaped generations, and your legacy will walk through these hallways forever.
