The Via Christi Family Medicine Residency program trains medical graduates to practice broad-based family medicine, serving both metro Wichita and rural areas across the state.

💚 Congratulations to Ann Nguyen, RN, Via Christi St. Francis 6SE, on being recognized as a DAISY Foundation award winner! 🌼 Ann was nominated by a patient's family member. The nomination said:

"I am writing to nominate Ann for the outstanding care and compassion she provided to my parent during a recent hospitalization following spinal fusion surgery. My parent, who lives with Parkinson's disease, is a retired Emergency Room charge nurse and spent much of that career serving in the very same hospital where they are now the patient. It meant a great deal to us that Ann not only recognized my parent's history and contributions, but also treated my parent with an incredible combination of clinical skill, patience, and dignity.

Parkinson's can make even routine care complex, but she approached every challenge with empathy and respect. She always took the time to explain procedures, check in on comfort, and include our family in the recovery process.

She did more than just care for my parent, she honored their legacy as a nurse, and helped them feel seen, valued, and safe during a vulnerable time. We are profoundly grateful for her dedication, professionalism, and the personal warmth she brought to every interaction.

Nurses like her are the heart of healthcare, and she exemplifies everything this profession stands for."

🥹 Congratulations, Ann! 🌼

Burn Safety Tips for Fireworks:
💥 Never let children handle fireworks
🧯 Keep water or a fire extinguisher nearby
🚫 Don’t try to relight a dud
📦 Store fireworks in a cool, dry place and follow all instructions
🫴👀 Don’t hold or look directly at fireworks

Basic First Aid for Minor Burns:
💦 Cool the burn with cool (not cold) water
🚫 Do not apply ice, butter, or ointments
🧼 Cover loosely with a clean, dry cloth or sterile bandage

Go to the ER if:
🚨 The burn is larger than 3 inches

Let’s keep the holiday bright, not burning. Stay safe, Wichita! 🎇

💜 Lighting the Way for Awareness & Survivorship 💡

This June, purple lights shine across Via Christi St. Francis in honor of Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month and Cancer Survivor Awareness Month, a dual tribute to resilience, early detection and compassionate care.

🧠 Did you know? Alzheimer’s disease affects more than 6 million Americans and is the most common cause of dementia. Subtle symptoms like memory loss and balance issues may be early signs, getting support and care can make a meaningful impact.

🎗️ Also, you should know: Cancer survivors often face long-term effects such as fatigue, pain, and cognitive changes, even years after treatment ends. Ongoing care and rehabilitation can play a vital role in restoring quality of life.

Via Christi offers specialized care for patients managing neurological conditions or recovering from cancer. Services include vestibular therapy, stroke rehabilitation and occupational therapy, supporting improved stability, confidence and well-being. Cancer care includes both inpatient and outpatient treatment options, from chemotherapy and radiation to genetics testing, nurse navigation and Cancer Wellness physical rehabilitation, including survivorship support, tailored to meet each patient’s unique needs.

✨ Let these lights serve as a symbol of healing, hope, and the dedication behind every step forward.

➖ Most patients diagnosed with prostate cancer aren’t eager to spend months getting treatment or recovering from surgery.

➕ However, patients referred for treatment to Via Christi's CyberKnife Center in Wichita don’t have to.

🎯 Because CyberKnife can hone in on lethal cancerous or unhealthy tissue with pinpoint precision in just one to five treatments — and requires no incisions or sedation — it’s increasingly become the life- and time-saving cancer treatment-of-choice for patients and doctors alike.

“In terms of accuracy and precision for moving targets, it's hard to beat CyberKnife,” says David Bryant, MD, medical director of Radiation Oncology for Ascension Via Christi’s Wichita hospitals.

💻 Hear more about prostate cancer from Dr. Bryant in a free webinar at 6 p.m., Wednesday, June 25. Register now to join and ask live Q&A: http://ascn.io/61824bRoq
