Ripley is settling in to the country, laid back life style since her graduation. We had a cow give birth to twins and the momma decided to only take care of one. That means the other baby needs to be bottle fed 3 times a day. Perfect job for Ripley! The best moment was being able to FaceTime her Cali friends while she was feeding the calf❤️. I’m not sure what was more enjoyable, Ripley feeding the calf or her friends witnessing SHE’S FEEDING A CALF!!!
We continue to work on physical strength as well as cognition and memory. Memory has been her biggest worry. Most days she can recall recent information and events, but then other times (that same day) it’s a big struggle. Her brain is working so hard and it’s easy to become fatigued. However she continues to push herself as her goal is to get a job and live on her own. We are doing everything we can to achieve that goal! Just the other day, she was able to grocery shop all on her own! I did follow her around the store like a bodyguard in disguise just in case she needed something. She did great and was even able to find the car in the parking lot! Which can be a struggle without a brain injury!
During Graduation weekend, Chapman interviewed Ripley (as well as documented her graduation) and wanted to share her amazing achievement with others. Last week, both a LA based news channel and our own local Portland channel highlighted Ripley’s story. The links will be in the comment section.
Thank you Team Ripley for your continued support!! She loves seeing the comments and feeling the support from everyone. Thank you!❤️

Graduation Weekend!
Settle in, this will be a long one…
Ripley is making further steps in gaining her independence by traveling down to Orange last Wednesday all by herself! She was met at the airport by her friend and was able to enjoy staying at her college home without parents for a few days. She was able to visit and reconnect with many friends and attend grad parties before graduation weekend. Bonus trip to Downtown Disney with Evelyn, Grace and friends. Friday Night was Chapman University Celebration where Ripley and her friends got front row seating to watch the Duffer Brothers (creators and former Chapman Grads) give the commencement speech. The following evening, Dodge College had their commencement ceremony where Ripley was able to walk across the stage to receive her diploma. She was cheered on by Sisters Gracie, Sydney, Brooke, Evelyn, nephews Krew and Kam, Aunt Erica, Grandma Nora, Great Aunt/Uncle Deb and David as well as Tim and I. The Dean of Dodge College, Steven Galloway, honored Ripley by acknowledging her story and recovery in his opening remarks. And later, she received a standing ovation as she walked across the stage.
Months ago we were uncertain as to if she would survive and to what extent would she recover during the first month in ICU. To Craig, where we wondered if she would need to use a wheel chair to get across the stage. To Saturday, where she was able to easily walk across the stage (she could have jogged if needed). She has come so far in such a short amount of time.
Chapman interviewed her prior to her graduation and asked the question about what goals did she set for herself when she was in Colorado. I don’t know if she had any specific goals, it’s just in her nature to strive to do better, succeed and push herself to achieve.
Seeing everyone stand and cheer her on as she received her degree reminded me of Team Ripley and how each and every one of you has cheered her on these past 6+ months.
I’m extremely thankful for our Franderson Family who is always willing to help and support each other. And who came to Orange, despite being busy to come celebrate Ripley.
Now we are continuing to challenge Ripley to focus on her memory and building new neuro pathways to help her become more independent as her goal is to live on her own and get a job. And seeing what she has done in 6 months, the sky is the limit for our Ripley.

I will add the link to her Dodge College Ceremony in the comments.

This week was a pretty mellow week for Ripley. She attend her weekly PT/OT/Speech as well as daily 2 hour workouts. She continues to work on her memory and cognition by completing workbooks, trackers, setting reminders and play a lot of card games. And I mean A LOT. We spend most evenings at the dining table playing some sort of card game.
While Tim is down visiting Syd, Nick and the Boys, Grandma Nora came to visit. Grandma and Ripley spent many hours in the kitchen cooking some of their favorite meals. They also cooked up a tasty dinner for David, Deb and Buddha (he got his own meal), who stayed the night.
This was a good and restful week because Ripley is flying solo down to Orange to enjoy spending time with her college friends before she graduates on Saturday!! This will be a huge trip for her as it’s the first time she will be away from family. However, she will be well looked after by her Chapman family.
While at Craig, our goal was to have her be able to walk across the stage to receive her degree. Goal accomplished Ripley!
We thank everyone who continues to follow Ripley’s story and the continued words on encouragement. ❤️❤️

Ripley enjoyed a weekend down to Orange, CA where she was able to visit many of her college friends, swing by her old campus job, catch up with her co workers, spend time eating and walking around Downtown Disney and attend her favorite, board game club. And that was all in one day!!! The rest of the weekend was spent being with her friends. Her friends have been the best medicine for her. They help remind her of who she is as well as accepting and embracing the newer version of Ripley.
We were lucky to have a close friend take Grad pictures for Ripley. Due to all of Ripley’s hard work prior to the accident, she has enough credits to graduate!! We will be heading down in a few weeks to see her walk across the stage with all of her friends.
Ripley has come a long way with her physical recovery and continues daily physical exercises (much to her displeasure). We have been focusing more on her memory and concentration. It is still common for her to forget many parts of her day or events. She is worried she will not get better, so we have been kicking it up a notch with brain exercises, memory, setting reminders and problem solving on a daily basis. It’s still a long road but she has the strength to makes tremendous gains. Her brain is her super power after all.

Weekly Update

Hi guys. Hope you are all doing well. Here is my weekly recap. As of today, it has been officially 6 months since my accident in CA. The first month was spent getting me stabilized and ready for rehab. The next 10 weeks consisted of me learning how to walk again, complete daily living skills, and just giving my brain time to heal. Since being home these last 5/6 weeks I have been doing a lot of physical exercises (not what I’m used to for sure haha), memory activities, and doctor appointments. All to help make me better. It’s great being home with my family and catching up with others in our town. I am lucky to have been able to go back to college fairly often.

I continue to have weekly PT/OT/Speech as well as other appointments that keep me busy. However not too busy that I have still have time to enjoy reading, driving our neighbor’s side by side (thanks Heather❤️) playing cards and games with Mom and Tim. Tonight even winning one of our favorite card games taught by our past Exchange student Virginia. I also helped out at my local school’s library by shelving some books (my mom works there as a therapist) and it’s where I went to elementary school. I also was able to visit with some of my favorite middle school teachers.

The last weekend I spent a lot of time with my sister Evelyn and saw one of my favorite musicals Phantom of the Opera.

Thank you all for being on this 6 month journey with me and my family, and for all the support. We talk about how much everyone’s healing vibes, prayers, thoughts and support contributed to my recovery. This road would have been a huge struggle if not for Team Ripley. ❤️

Today has been a day of celebration and reflection. Multiple times today Ripley has talked about how it “kind of sucks” that she isn’t spending her 22nd birthday at Chapman with her friends. But in the next sentence, she is thankful to be alive.
We are so very thankful to be able to celebrate our Ripley not just today, but everyday. Happy Birthday Ripley. We love you!

Weekly Update by Ripley

My week consisted of a few big things. The biggest thing was my trip to Orange (college town). So great to see everyone, such as my friends, professors, and our deans who I all spent a lot of time with. My supervisor from the University Program Board also came, it was so nice to spend time with everyone. I am so thankful to my department at my school for the special and unique birthday celebration they put on for me. Made me feel like I’m a valued student. It was so thoughtful.

I also had a birthday party at my house by school with a few of my friends cause we all have similar birthdays. It was so great to see all of them, I’m so grateful. I also think it’s awesome that they always try to include me even though I’m gone from campus. Then I came back home to Oregon.

I also went and saw my step-sister in the hospital cause she recently got knee surgery. It was great seeing her.

It was super nice and fun to go back, see all the people I spent a lot of time with, and stay at my house. But slightly weird that I’m not staying there anymore. But was so nice seeing everyone again. Got even more excited for graduation!!

At home I’m continuing to work on my memory, focus, and physical therapy. I started jogging which I never would have expected ever but I’m sure it makes my mom happy.

Thank you guys for always looking at these posts. Love all the support you guys give us. I love to look back at previous posts and look at the comments.

This is 100% Ripley update!!

Ripley Weekly Recap
On Tuesday, I read a book at home. It was super sweet. Also got Starbucks!!

Wednesday, met up for food with some of our neighbors. Super sweet and tasty! Also did appointments for Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Speech.

On Thursday, I went and got my nails painted green (my favorite color).

Friday, we did physical exercise at home like always.

On Saturday, I went to my uncle’s house and saw my cousins, grandparents, and another uncle. We did a fun run called Run for the Wild. It was 3.1 miles. It’s done to raise money for fighting forest fires.

On Sunday, we went to our favorite Asian grocery store on the way home from my uncle’s house.

On Monday we visited my stepsister Brooke since she had a knee surgery recently.

On Tuesday, I saw my stepsister again and then pho for lunch (one of my favorite meals) and some more bubble tea. I also helped out at our schools’s library as well as visiting our local library. For dinner, we had beef roast and potatoes

Writing this now, I have been doing a lot of physical things every day. It’s great to be with my family and our dog, Paisley. Still reading as much as usual. And still drinking a good amount of boba like back in California. Most of it has to be bought from stores and is canned. Excited to graduate in May!! So thankful to all my family for the help and for running this account. I love to look through it in my free time.

Nightly Update
Ripley decided today she was royalty and should be called Princess Ripley. It’s fitting as she went to the dentist to get a temporary crown on the broken tooth from the accident. As a reward for handling the dentist like a champ, her Majesty was treated to pho and a trip to the book store❤️.
She continues to get settled in at home and we spent the reminder of the day unpacking and reorganizing her room. She brought up numerous times her sadness and disappointment about no longer being at Disney+ or at Chapman. This has been common theme for Ripley these past few weeks. We discuss how much it sucks she isn’t where she wants to be. It’s wonderful how Ripley is self aware and her situation is not where she wants it to be. This shows she is having more awareness and knowledge of what is going on around her. While this awareness of knowing her current abilities are not where she wants them to be nor what she has been striving to become, we are so very grateful to have Ripley with us. She is here, where we can hug and talk with her❤️
Ripley and her family want to thank everyone who continues to follow along on her journey. Moving forward we are going to change the nightly updates to weekly updates. We are going to take a step back and focus on simply enjoying being with her. We hope everyone takes the time this week to simply “be in the moment” thankful to those who are in our lives. And how lucky we are.
Peace and Love Team Ripley❤️

Nightly Update
Ripley had a fun and eventful weekend! Yesterday, not only did we welcome home Paisley, we also went up to Portland to enjoy one of our favorite Broadway musical Les Mis. We enjoyed sharing the experience with friends and family❤️.
Today we continued on the tradition of Easter, where the girls have to follow string (all over the house) to their Easter baskets. This was a great PT workout for Ripley working on balance and navigating obstacles. Ripley spent the day periodically face timing friends and getting in family time with Grandma, Grandpa Rich and Evelyn before they headed home.
This weekend was a time to reconnect with friends and family, and continue building her thought processes, focus and memory.
We hope everyone was able to enjoy and celebrate this weekend.
Rest well Team Ripley❤️
