WELCOME HOME, WILLIAM! 🏠

Please join us in welcoming William home! 🎉

After spending time in nursing facilities, William has successfully transitioned back to living in the community, where he is excited to begin this next chapter and enjoy the independence he worked so hard to regain.

William is looking forward to getting out, being social, and reconnecting with the things and people he loves. One of those things? Music! 🎶 William loves playing multiple instruments and can’t wait to pick up his guitar again and play alongside his friends.

His journey is a wonderful reminder that living in a nursing facility does not have to be permanent. With the right supports, resources, and advocacy, people can have options to return to—and thrive in—their communities.

Roads to Freedom is honored to have played a part in William’s transition and is grateful for the opportunity to support him and others as they work toward greater independence.

Welcome home, William! We hope this new chapter is filled with music, friendship, independence, and plenty of opportunities to do the things you love! 🎸🎶

🏡 HOME SWEET HOME: YOUR COMMUNITY. YOUR CHOICE!! ✊🏽♿️

Where we live — and with whom we live — should never be determined by disability.

At Roads to Freedom Center for Independent Living, we believe community living is more than a service or program. It is a civil right.

People with disabilities have the right to choose where and how we live, to direct our own lives, and to receive the supports we need in our own homes and communities — not institutions!

That is why we are proud to share NACDD's Home Sweet Home: Your Community. Your Choice. campaign.

As protections for community living face renewed threats, this is a time for all of us — people with disabilities, families, advocates, neighbors, policymakers, and communities — to speak up.

📣 Talk to your lawmakers.
🤝 Talk to your neighbors.
🏡 Defend home and community-based services.
♿ Support real choice, control, and self-determination.
✊ And keep fighting until institutionalization is no longer treated as an acceptable answer to disability.

Our homes. Our communities. Our lives. Our choice.

Because people with disabilities don't belong in institutions!!

We belong everywhere.

HCBS. You might have heard this term before. It stands for Home and Community-based Services. What it really means is “Medicaid home care.” It’s through these services, people can live, work, play, worship, engage, and contribute to their community.

The new DOJ opinion says that federal disability laws may not require states to provide services that would allow people to live in their communities – meaning that it could be harder to get services and avoid being locked up in institutions.

We have come too far to turn back.
