A Long-Overdue Honor for a True American Hero! ❤️🤍💙
Yesterday was an extraordinary day at Harris Hill Nursing Facility as we celebrated one of our own, George L. Klein, a World War II Navy veteran, who was presented with the military medals he earned through his service more than 80 years ago. 🎖️
George proudly served as a radioman 3rd class in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946, including service in the Philippines during World War II. During a special ceremony attended by Congressman Tim Kennedy, family members, fellow residents, staff, and community supporters, George received the honors and recognition he so richly deserved for his dedication and sacrifice to our country.
Among the medals presented were the Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon—symbols of a legacy of courage, service, and commitment.
The event included speeches from Congressman Tim Kennedy, representatives from the American Red Cross and the WNY Quilters for a Cause Chapter of the Quilt of Valor organization, as well as his sons, Geoffrey and Richard, and his great grandsons Richard and Carter.
With his wife of 80 years, Corrine M. (Owens) Klein by his side, George honored his fellow veterans and remembered those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
After his discharge from the service, George and Corrine raised a beautiful family that included four children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He worked as a pharmacist and served as a Deacon at SS Peter & Paul Parish. He is a member of the VFW and American Legion.
George has been a resident at Harris Hill Nursing Facility for four months, recently celebrating his 100th birthday on April 11th. When asked what his secret to a long life is, he replied, "love." ❤️
We are honored to celebrate George and thank him for his service. It was a privilege to witness this meaningful moment and recognize his contributions to our nation.
