Dysautonomia Clinic

Dysautonomia Clinic Clinic dedicated to patients with dysautonomia, Long COVID, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and related conditions.

Led by an internationally recognized neurologist, researcher and a leading expert in dysautonomia
Dr. Svetlana Blitshteyn, MD, FAAN, FANA. Dysautonomia Clinic, located in Williamsville, NY, provides in-office, phone and video consults to patients from the United States and internationally. Dysautonomia Clinic also provides comprehensive approach to patient care, including consults in nutrition, p

sychotherapy, life and wellness coaching, rehabilitation consults, medico-legal consulting and opportunities to participate in clinical research. Dr. Blitshteyn trained at Mayo Clinic and has co-authored the first book on POTS called "POTS - Together We Stand: Riding the Waves of Dysautonomia." She was also featured in the documentary, "Changes: Living with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome." Dr. Blitshteyn is the Principle Investigator on numerous research studies and published in the scientific journals on the topics of POTS, headache and other neurologic disorders. She is an invited speaker to national and international conferences, including the World Health Organization, and is the recipient of numerous awards, including NY Top Doctors and Patient’s Choice Award in dysautonomia. She serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurology at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and volunteers on the Medical Advisory Board for several non-profit organizations, including Dysautonomia International, Dysautonomia Information Network and the Ehlers-Danlos Society.

🔥 Just published: new paper from Dysautonomia Clinic Research Team on abnormal ge***al symptoms in patients with dysautonomia and comorbidities.
✔️ 10 patients with autonomic disorders (6 with POTS) and comorbidities describing abnormal ge***al arousal and sensory symptoms
✔️ 8 of 10 patients had positive autoimmune or inflammatory markers, the most common being positive ANA
✔️ Patients' ge***al symptoms improved by targeted therapies for autonomic dysfunction and autoimmunity, including IVIG. One patient no longer needed Vi**ra when given anhigh dose of IVIG.
✔️ Findings suggest that abnormal ge***al sensory symptoms, erectile dysfunction, decreased libido or ge***al hyperarousal could stem from autonomic dysfunction, autoimmunity and small fiber neuropathy.

🧠 New paper by Dr. Blitshteyn and colleagues criticizing an unfounded promotion of brain-body therapy for treatment of POTS. Too often doctors jump to psychotherapies for treatment of complex chronic disorders, but it's important to emphasize that there is no scientific evidence that brain-body therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy or other forms of psychotherapy are effective for patients with POTS.

🧭Conclusion :

🧠 Some of our research assistants/students from Jacobs School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences - University at Buffalo met this past Saturday to discuss ongoing and future research projects and to have some fun on a sunny day!
🙏 Some students are graduating and have matched into excellent neurology and OB/GYN programs! One student has been with us for all 4 years of her medical school career and expressed how grateful she is for all of the research opportunities that Dysautonomia Clinic gave her!
🔬 New students are coming in on our research team while senior students are leaving, but one thing is for sure: all students get to participate in our innovative, cutting-edge research! 🔥

POTS commonly begins during the teen years, which is why school nurses, teachers, parents and students need to be aware.
Dr. Blitshteyn was interviewed for this article in a school newspaper.

Her heart is a drum she can’t control, pounding against the cage of her ribs as if it’s trying to escape. The air around her thickens. The light bends. The world begins to slip through her fingers. But she’s only standing still. There are no bandages, no casts, no warning signs to help the wor...
