Silver Service Children's Foundation

Silver Service Children's Foundation Our all volunteer medical team comes from all over the United States and is composed of 9 physicians, 2 residents and 8 nurses.

The goal of the Silver Service Children's Foundation is to provide the best in pediatric orthopedic surgical care to the underserved children of Colombia and other countries in South America at no cost to the family. Since October 1992, the Silver Service Children’s Foundation has been traveling to The Fundacion Hospital San Jose de Buga, in Buga Colombia to perform a week of orthopedic surgeries.

Clinics are held to evaluate and treat children with a variety of orthopaedic conditions – club feet, congenital hip dislocations as well as congenital and acquired orthopaedic conditions. On each trip to Colombia approximately 250 children are examined in our clinics and 35-40 children receive surgical procedures. All care is provided free of charge. To provide this care, we must bring all the first quality supplies necessary for surgery, including, suture, sterile packs, implants, instruments, medications, anesthesia supplies and casting materials from the United States. We rely entirely on donations for these supplies. Equally important is the support we receive from Casa de Colombia, a charitable organization, formed to help Colombian children. The Silver Service Children’s Foundation is incorporated in the State of Illinois and is exempt from federal income tax under the Internal Revenue Code described in section 501 (C) (3), identification number- # 36-3960644.

We are going to Colombia again in less than five weeks. Please see the letter below from our medical director and consider making a donation to help us?

Dear friends,

I write today to ask for your help. The Silver Service Children's Foundation has for 30 years been providing life-changing orthopedic care to children in under-resourced communities, most recently in Colombia.
We resumed our medical trips this spring and in one week performed orthopedic surgeries for 34 children and consultations for 200 referred to us from all over Colombia, many from remote rural areas. We will conduct another trip this fall. As you can see, the need for our services continues. Because of COVID we have been limited in our fundraising. As we prepare for our October trip, we find that we are stretched financially to afford all the materials we must procure. I am hoping that you will consider a generous donation at this time.

For example, a gift of:
• $50 will buy a box of 10 fiberglass casts
• $125 pays for a box of 50 sterile non-latex powder free gloves
• $350 buys a box of 36 Ethicon sutures
• $500 will purchase 15 procedure packs. We need to purchase 30 packs
• $1,000 buys us 7 bottles of the anaesthetic Sevofluorane. We need 10 bottles.
