I'm writing this post from a hundred miles away from the store. I'm able to do this only because of the dedication of my amazing staff under the leadership of the one-and-only Laura.

And I think they wanted a break from me.

I'm eating all the seafood I can during this brief vacation. It always surprises me when people come into the store looking for fresh seafood in Vermont. We carry Red's Best because it's the best frozen seafood that you can get, and that will always be the freshest in our landlocked state. I set the goal of only eating entrees with seafood and it was a brilliant goal to set.

I've also had some delicious summer salads down here, and I can say that the salads coming out of our kitchen will hold a candle to any of them. We have a fresh batch for this weekend, including heirloom tomato salad, elite Hadley corn chicken salad, and more. I suggest you come down as soon as you can before they sell out, because they always do.

I'll be back in a few days. I feel so lucky, not only to have the staff that I have, but also to be able to return from a vacation to a spectacular place like Vermont. In many ways, my life is better than most people's vacation.

I've benefited from a lot of luck since buying this wonderful little store. The best luck has been the staff. The core people who started with me on day one and those who walked in later on and said they wanted to join us are the best people I've ever worked with.

And we're expanding our team with a short order cook for that amazing kitchen everyone asks about!

This is actually the first time I have needed to run a hiring ad. We've been able to grow by having customers raise their hands and ask to come on board.

For those of you who can move slowly today, be thankful. The (amazing) staff here at Farmhouse Market are not that fortunate. And in the kitchen we whipped up a lime teriyaki chicken salad that is perfect for this sticky weather.

Of course we have more than this salad in our coolers in the store. Discover our grab-and-go sandwiches as well as cookies and other baked goods coming out of a too-warm kitchen that you can save yourself from creating at home.

When I was learning to cook, I would take a page from Bob Ross and aim for "happy little accidents." Where Bob Ross would turn accidental blobs of paint into beautiful trees, I would take my accidental blobs of ingredients and try to make something delicious.

I still blob things together at times. Last week I took a bowl of the delicious pasta salad Jeanine had made and stirred in a healthy squeeze of the traditional tomato condiment from Bologna that she makes for our Italian coldcut sandwiches. Oh my lord.

When I excitedly told Jeanine what I had done, she gave me what could be described as a patient look. "I can make that salad if you want," she said.

So here's Jeanine'e Friggione Pasta Salad, with the traditional tomato condiment from Bologna, cukes, red onion, balsamic roasted tomatoes and onions, feta, Evoo, and spices. It's so much better than my "accident."

We're not cooking as much in the kitchen this week because we're catering an event for a long-term customer. We are offering tzatziki chicken salad that should be on everyone's bucket list.

People keep calling asking if we have "The Corn." Of course we do. And if you don't know what "The Corn" is, then come get some. If you know, you know.

We have other amazing produce and products that you're not going to find for miles and miles around because nobody is nuts enough to do what we do. We drive countless miles every year to pick up the best products for you to enjoy in your homes.

This morning took me to Miller Farm milk, Orchard Hill Breadworks, and Piccadilly Farm. Tomorrow we will go south to pick up more corn, as well as tomatoes, squash, bok choy, berries, and other delicious, healthy, and ultra local produce for you to enjoy.

Earlier this week we picked up beets, blueberries, peas, kale, eggplant, basil -- I know I'm forgetting a bunch of things.

We're proud of all the products that we put on our shelves -- and this time of year is definitely our favorite time of year, as our farmer friends' fields come to life and we can share their amazing bounty with you.

I find the perfect summer salads to be as beautiful to look at as they are delicious to taste. The colors, the textures, the shapes. We have a few beauties in our coolers right now.

Jeanine also had some fun with this one. If you haven't heard of the FIFA 15, it refers to the 15 pounds that each foreign traveler thinks they are going to gain eating American food -- in particular, ranch dressing.

Ranch dressing has become so crazily popular that FIFA fans are trying to bring it on to planes in their carry-ons on their way home. TSA had to issue a special bulletin telling people that ranch dressing is still a liquid and it's not allowed in the passenger compartment.

This Ranch Farfalle Pasta Salad celebrates the dressing in a fun, festive, FIFA way. The bowtie pasta gives it a black-tie, European quality. The turkey bacon adds the salty umami while keeping you striker trim, and the peas and tomatoes make it pop like the biggest corner kick. And it's all tossed in a delicious homemade ranch.

Two important things to note this morning about our kitchen: summer salad season is here, and we're hiring.

For salads today, we have potato salad, chicken salad, and bean salad. Jeanine has returned for the summer once again and she whipped up all these delicious salads while having fun in the new kitchen. Small containers are $4.99 and large containers are $8.99. I sampled all of them and they are delicious. I had to stop myself from eating more.

We would love to hire other people who want to enjoy working in our new kitchen. This is the first time I've actually needed to go out and promote a job opening. I've been able to double the staff at this market by hiring people who have approached us wanting to join our team. Plan on wowing us with a sample that you've made. If all I ever earn from owning this store is the flexibility to spend time with my aging mother, then this will count as the biggest success of my life.

I couldn't do it without the best staff in the universe. As much as I love being at the store, it fires on all cylinders without me.
