Mouth sores (also called oral mucositis) are one of the most painful side effects of chemotherapy, causing pain, discomfort and difficulty eating, drinking, or speaking.

The Chemo Mouthpiece® is an FDA cleared oral cooling device designed by a cancer survivor to help reduce the incidence and severity of chemotherapy induced oral mucositis.
- Use before, during, and after chemo infusions
- Non-medication
- Cools the entire oral cavity evenly

By cooling the mouth, the device promotes vasoconstriction (narrowing of the blood vessels) which reduces blood flow, limiting chemotherapy circulation to oral tissues and reducing damage.

It’s simple and easy-to-use and clinically proven.* Ask your healthcare provider about the Chemo Mouthpiece as part of your supportive care plan.

June is National Cancer Survivors Month. According to the National Cancer Institute, there are an estimated 18.6 million cancer survivors in the United States as of May 2025, representing approximately 5.4% of the population.

June is an opportunity to recognize these survivors as well as the caregivers, researchers, clinicians, and communities who support them every step of the way. Managing treatment-related side effects and maintaining quality of life remain important considerations throughout the cancer journey.

Some of the hardest parts of chemotherapy aren't always the ones people talk about.

Some chemotherapy side effects appear early in treatment.

Mouth sores (oral mucositis) may start with redness, tenderness, or sensitivity in the mouth before progressing to painful sores.

Because symptoms can worsen quickly once treatment begins, understanding the risk of mouth sores before treatment begins can help patients report changes early and have discussions with their healthcare team about supportive care options, including oral cryotherapy.

Exciting oncology advances were highlighted at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) meeting last weekend, bringing new hope to patients and families facing cancer.

As treatment options continue to evolve, the importance of educating patients about potential side effects before treatment begins remains a vital step.

Oral mucositis (often referred to as mouth sores) is a common and debilitating side effect of many chemotherapy treatments. In some patients, oral mucositis can slow or delay cancer treatment.

Early awareness, supportive care planning, and patient education can help patients better prepare for their treatment journey. Innovations in cancer treatment and patient support should advance together.

When preparing for chemotherapy, most patients expect side effects like nausea, fatigue, or hair loss. But some side effects affect the mouth.

Chemotherapy can cause mouth sores (oral mucositis) that make eating, drinking, and even speaking uncomfortable during treatment.

Learning about mouth sores BEFORE chemotherapy begins allows patients to know the symptoms and talk with their care team about proactive options such as oral cryotherapy.
