Stop by and see the great work being done at one of our safety net partners Black River Health Services, Inc. as they celebrate National Health Center week. We are proud to partner with them as they serve Pender County and surrounding counties to ensure access to healthcare for all.

🧡 Celebrating National Health Center Week! 🧡

This week, Black River Health Services is proud to celebrate National Health Center Week, a time to recognize the vital role community health centers play in improving access to high-quality, affordable healthcare and strengthening the communities we serve.

For us, National Health Center Week is more than a celebration—it's a reflection of our mission to provide compassionate, patient-centered care while working alongside our community to improve health, reduce barriers to care, and support families where they are.

To celebrate, we're inviting the community to join us for our National Health Center Week Community Event: Healthy Kids. Strong Starts! 🎒📚

Families can enjoy a FREE school supply giveaway (while supplies last), connect with local organizations, and learn about the programs and resources available throughout our community.

Proud to have both programs as part of the CFHN Cape Fear Region safety net.

When people think about homeless services, healthcare isn't always the first thing that comes to mind.

But good health and stable housing often work hand in hand.

Without a safe place to live, managing medications, recovering from illness, or keeping up with routine medical care can be incredibly challenging. That's why access to healthcare is an important part of helping neighbors move toward lasting stability.

Through our partnership with Cape Fear Clinic, shelter guests have access to an onsite Medical Clinic where they can receive compassionate care, manage chronic conditions, and connect with the resources they need, all in a familiar and supportive environment.

It's one more way we're meeting immediate needs while helping build a healthier future.

Because a different kind of shelter means caring for the whole person, and every step toward better health is a step toward greater stability.

🧡 Meet the Team: Sara Sutton-Meyer, FNP-C! 🧡

Sara Sutton-Meyer is a Family Nurse Practitioner serving patients at Black River Health Services' Burgaw location. Sara brings nearly a decade of family practice experience and a passion for serving rural communities.

As the wife of a U.S. Coast Guard member for the past 26 years, Sara and her family have had the opportunity to live across the country, from Florida to Alaska. While caring for patients in Ketchikan, Alaska, Sara found her calling in rural healthcare, where she discovered the value of building lasting relationships with patients and their families.

Sara completed her education at Northwestern Michigan College, Ohio University, and Indiana State University. She also completed her clinical rotations right here at Black River Health Services, where she fell in love with the community and knew she wanted to return.

Sara believes in partnering with her patients and meeting them where they are. She takes the time to listen, understand each person's unique needs, and provide the support, resources, and treatment that best fit their situation. Guided by her faith and a heart for service, she strives to care for the whole person with compassion, respect, and kindness.

Outside of work, Sara enjoys gardening, creating beautiful flower arrangements, and spending time with her husband, their two teenage daughters, and their three cats. Sara’s faith is the foundation of her life. She enjoys attending Bible study, serving her church, and baking homemade sourdough for weekly communion. Her desire to care for others extends beyond the clinic and reflects her lifelong commitment to service and compassion.

We're grateful to have Sara as part of the Black River Health Services family and appreciate the compassionate, patient-centered care she provides to our community every day. 🧡
