Spring symptoms are not always as simple as “seasonal allergies.”

If this time of year leaves you feeling congested, foggy, anxious, exhausted, itchy, dizzy, overstimulated, or suddenly reactive to foods you usually tolerate, histamine may be part of the picture.

Histamine intolerance can show up through headaches or migraines, flushing, sleep disruption, digestive issues, nausea, skin irritation, brain fog, fatigue, or reactions to wine, leftovers, aged foods, and fermented foods.

Because these symptoms can shift from day to day and affect different systems in the body, histamine issues are often overlooked.

At Terrain Health, we look at how gut health, inflammation, immune function, nervous system regulation, and environmental triggers may all connect beneath the surface.

Spring rain and rising humidity don’t just affect the weather. They can also affect indoor environments in ways people don’t always think about.

For some individuals, increased mold exposure may contribute to symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, congestion, headaches, dizziness, skin irritation, or worsening inflammation.

At Terrain Health, we look at the bigger picture when symptoms don’t fully add up, including the role environmental factors may play in overall health.

People rarely think about sunscreen as something they may use hundreds or even thousands of times over their lifetime.
Again, this doesn’t mean avoiding SPF. Daily sun protection is important. But it does raise a bigger conversation around repeated exposure, ingredient awareness, and what we put on our skin consistently over time.

A few things people are paying closer attention to now:
• Oxybenzone and octinoxate
• Spray sunscreens that can be inhaled
• Heavy synthetic fragrance
• Skin barrier irritation from certain formulas
• The difference between chemical and mineral sunscreens

Mineral sunscreens use ingredients like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide to create a physical barrier that reflects UV rays, rather than absorbing them chemically into the skin.

At Terrain Health, we believe awareness matters. Sometimes better health starts with simply asking better questions about the products we use every day.

One of the biggest myths about Lyme disease is that a tick has to stay attached for 24–48 hours before there’s any real risk.

The reality is that earlier transmission may happen faster than many people think, which is why noticing symptoms early and staying aware matters.

At Terrain Health, we believe education and early attention to symptoms can play an important role in supporting long-term wellness.

Kids spend more time outside, closer to grass, wooded areas, and places ticks love to hide, which makes daily tick checks especially important this time of year.

A quick check after camp, sports, hikes, or playing outside can make a bigger difference than most people realize.

At Terrain Health, we know how important early awareness and prevention can be when it comes to long-term health.

May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month, and for many people, the conversation doesn’t end after treatment.

Some patients continue experiencing symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, joint pain, dizziness, and nervous system issues long after the initial infection. Lyme disease can affect every person differently, which is part of what makes it so complex and often misunderstood.

At Terrain Health, we believe persistent symptoms deserve deeper investigation, not dismissal.

Leaky gut is a term used when the lining of the intestines becomes more permeable than it should be.

When that barrier weakens, substances that normally stay inside the digestive tract can pass into the bloodstream and trigger immune reactions. Over time this can contribute to inflammation, food sensitivities, skin issues, fatigue, and other symptoms that don’t always seem connected to the gut.

At Terrain, we often see patients dealing with these kinds of symptoms without realizing the gut barrier may be involved. When that barrier is compromised, the immune system can stay in a constant state of activation, which is why looking closely at gut health can be an important piece of the bigger picture.

Happy National Nurses Week 💙

Nurses are the people patients remember. The ones who make you feel calmer when you’re overwhelmed, answer the questions you forgot to ask, and somehow keep everything moving while still making people feel cared for.

At Terrain Health, we’re so grateful for the nurses who show up every single day with patience, compassion, and heart. What you do matters more than you probably realize.

Thank you for taking care of everyone else, even on the hard days ✨

Bloating at night is not always a gut issue alone.
Stress and blood sugar regulation can all play a role in how the body responds by the end of the day.

Are you dealing with things like fatigue, bloating, brain fog, skin changes, or new food sensitivities and wondering if they might be connected? The gut microbiome plays a big role in the immune system and in many of the signals that affect how the body feels day to day.

At Terrain, when symptoms keep showing up without clear answers, we often take a closer look at gut health. Understanding what is happening in the microbiome can sometimes help explain patterns that have been showing up for a while.
