☀️ Summer happenings are in full swing for our student pharmacists!

This month, rising P3 students Mira and Manali completed their IPPE-2 rotation at Novant Presbyterian Medical Center, where they gained valuable hands-on experience in an inpatient pharmacy setting. Throughout their rotation, they had the opportunity to observe interdisciplinary healthcare teams in action and see firsthand how pharmacists contribute to patient care across the hospital.

“It was such an amazing inpatient pharmacy experience. It gave us an overview on how clinical pharmacists and technicians work together to deliver patient care.”

This summer has already been a productive and exciting one for WUSOP’s student pharmacists! We’re kicking off our Summer Happenings series with one of our outstanding P4 students, Sarah Voso, who gives us a glimpse into her APPE rotation experiences.

“In May I had my first APPE rotation at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, South Carolina. I was staffed on 4 different ICU units and got to participate in patient care first hand. I also had the opportunity to attended the NCAP conference to present my capstone research project.
For June, I am completing my inpatient rotation at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center in Salisbury, North Carolina. I have the opportunity to counsel patients independently on their discharge medications to ensure a safe transition home.” – Sarah 🥼

🎉Meet your 2026-2027 Social Media Team! We are ready to Rock N Roll for the new school year! 🥁

Kate: Hello everyone! My name is Kate Perez Jimenez, and I’m excited to serve as one of your Social Media Ambassadors. I look forward to sharing WUSOP, student life, and the experiences that make our community special. Outside of school, I work as a Pharmacy Intern at CVS Pharmacy. At WUSOP, I serve as the 26–27 Student Senate Historian and will be a Bulldog Guide in Fall 2026 for the upcoming undergraduate pre-pharm students.

Manali: Hi everyone! My name is Manali Dhanak and I am honored to serve you as one of your social media ambassadors! I am so excited to share all the fun and good things we will achieve this school year! If you have anything you would like to share with me, please do not hesitate. We recently had the opportunity to catch up with P4 student Jackie Karinja, who is currently completing an APPE rotation in Belize! She is pictured in front on the right of the first photo.

Jackie is serving with Hillside Health Care alongside her preceptor, helping provide medical care to residents through the clinic. As one of the first WUSOP P4 students to participate in this rotation, Jackie shared that she is loving the experience and would gladly return to volunteer in the future.

Jackie arrived on May 23 and will return on June 23. She is joined by students from eight different schools, creating a unique interprofessional learning experience.

We look forward to following more of Jackie’s journey throughout the month! For our P3 students, this rotation opportunity will be available to you as well, with information sessions offered during the school year.

We wish Jackie safe travels and the very best as she continues this incredible experience!

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close and summer begins, we want to remind our students to take time to rest, recharge, and care for themselves.

Pharmacy school requires so much dedication, and it’s important to recognize the value of taking care of your mental health along the way. Whether this summer brings APPEs, internships, work, rotations, or well-deserved downtime, we hope you make space for balance, support, and moments that bring you joy.

Thank you to our students for your resilience, compassion, and hard work throughout this year. Wishing everyone a safe, healthy, and restorative summer break!
