This past Sunday, Dr. Clevenger and students from his Opioid course had the opportunity to volunteer at Lincoln Heights Park in Charlotte for a community event focused on opioid overdose prevention, treatment, and harm reduction.
Hosted by Hajee House Harm Reduction Inc. of Charlotte, NC, the event brought together numerous organizations dedicated to providing the community with valuable resources and support.
Throughout the event, Dr. Clevenger’s students heard from local nonprofits and listened to powerful testimonies about substance use and overdose, turning grief into purpose, and how to support individuals and communities without judgment or stigma.
The event also provided free food and drinks, as well as free Narcan, helping make this life-saving resource more accessible to the community.
Opportunities like this allow future pharmacists to engage directly with the community, gain a deeper understanding of harm reduction, and learn the importance of compassion and education in addressing the opioid crisis. 💙
