What began as “Still, Us: The Letting Series”, founded by neuropsychologist Dr. Karen Sullivan, has now evolved into the Still Us Foundation, with an even deeper commitment to changing the lived experience of dementia—together.

When I first became involved, I hoped to offer something meaningful from my own experience caring for mom through dementia. What I didn’t expect was how much these gatherings would nourish me in return.

I’ve witnessed the healing that happens when people come together to listen, share, and simply be present with one another.

I’m honored to continue facilitating these Community Circle Gatherings alongside an incredible team:

• Rev. Sue Hudson – retired Presbyterian pastor and spiritual companion
• Cyndy Paige – sound healer, teacher, and lover of the Earth
• Rev. Colette Bachand – Episcopal priest and dementia care practitioner

Together, we’ll explore this series’ theme: Listening with Love.

Grounded in the belief that community is medicine, these monthly gatherings are for every part of the dementia care circle:
💜 The person living with dementia or brain change
💚 Care partners and family members
💙 Healthcare workers and caring professionals
🤍 Anyone in the community who wants to learn, support, and connect

Each gathering offers a space for rest and renewal, meaningful conversation, practical wellness practices, and resources to help you move forward with greater compassion and resilience.

As a somatic therapist, I’m grateful to bring body-based practices that support nervous system regulation, presence, and authentic connection—especially when words alone aren’t enough.

Join us for our first gathering:

A month ago, I sent the first newsletter of a 12-week series.

Truthfully, I wasn't sure what it would become. It had been SO long since I’ve written long form content, the visual/audio version of the newsletters are not the best quality, and I’m still figuring out the lighting…

But what began as a simple desire to stay connected and share from the heart, has evolved into a space for deep reflection, honest conversation, embodied practice and acceptance — flaws and all.

Over the past month, we've explored:

🌿 Nurturing ourselves with the same care we so often offer others

🌿 Reassessing our values and recognizing how they evolve throughout different seasons of life

🌿 Listening to our inner compass and the wisdom of the heart-body connection

Along the way, I've shared personal stories from caregiving, grief, healing, and the practices that continue to support me today.

And this is only the beginning!

This month, we'll be exploring the landscape of the mind:

☁️ Noticing our thoughts without becoming them

☁️ Discernment and learning what deserves our attention

☁️ Information overload, unplugging, and creating space

☁️ Integration and turning insight into embodied wisdom

My intention is for these emails to feel less like a newsletter and more like a gentle pause—a place to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with yourself.

If you'd like to join us, you can sign up through the link in the comments so you don't miss future reflections, somatic practices, community updates, and offerings.

And if you've been reading and practicing along, I'd love to know:

What has resonated most with you so far?

With care,
Patricia

🟢 May’s Still, Us Community Circle 🟢

When I was caring for mom, there were moments when dementia felt so heavy that it became hard to see beyond it.

The grief, the uncertainty, the constant adapting—it would narrow the world very quickly.

But in the darkness, there were still many moments of light…

Walking into her bedroom every morning and saying “ Good morning, mami”, while leaning in for a morning kiss and hug.

Playing our favorite tunes, dancing and me twirling mom on her wheelchair.

Holding her left hand while driving around town.

Caring for mom was sacred, a spiritual practice and my daily devotion to connection, putting love into action and seeking the light…

🌿 May’s focus: Letting In Light

As we close this season of Still Us, this month’s circle invites us to gently open toward hope, renewal, spirituality, and community.

To remember that even amid change and loss, moments of meaning and beauty still exist.

Still Us is a space for caregivers, loved ones, professionals, and anyone walking alongside dementia to gather in honesty, compassion, and connection.

Together, we remember that relationship can still deepen, transform, and endure.

Something new is taking shape behind the scenes.

DEVOTED is an upcoming somatic offering centered around embodiment, ritual, presence, and returning to yourself with intention.

This space is being created slowly and thoughtfully, and I cannot wait to share more with you soon.

Lately, I’ve been reflecting on return.

A return to the body.
To my values.
To the practices that have supported me for nearly two decades.
To the roots of why Hola Beloved first began.

Over the past several months, I stepped back from private practice to listen more deeply—to grief, my caregiving experience, heartbreak, and the rhythm of my own life as it is NOW.

And slowly, I’m emerging from what feels like an extended winter pause…with more clarity, alignment, and steadiness.

Last week, I sent out the first Hola Beloved newsletter sharing a bit more about this season, along with a grounding somatic practice.

Over the next 12 weeks, I’ll be sharing weekly somatic practices, reflections, offerings, and updates for:

🪷 1:1 sessions

🪷 community circles

🪷 embodied classes

🪷 nervous system support

🪷 and simple ways to reconnect with yourself

There are so many moments throughout the day where we move quickly… from one thing to the next… without ever really arriving in ourselves.

This is something I’ve been gently returning to—again and again.

Reducing my consumption of social media and not being so attached to my phone, has been tremendous!

And it’s part of why I’ve decided to start sharing more through my email community.

If you join, you can expect:

• simple somatic practices to help you come back to your body

• reflections for this season of your life

• updates on 1:1 sessions

• invitations to community circles and classes

My intention is for these emails to feel like a soft place to land… something you can return to when you need a moment of grounding, presence, or care.

If that resonates, I’d love to have you there.

You can sign up through the link in the comments.

With care,

Patricia G

✨ March’s Still, Us Community Circle ✨

When I was caring for my mom, I began to understand that connection doesn’t live only in words.

It lives in presence.

In breath.

In the quiet ways we learn to feel one another.

Each month, Still, Us offers a space for caregivers, loved ones, and professionals to come together — to soften, to learn, and to remember that even through change, relationship is still possible.

🌿 March’s focus: Letting Us Attune

This month is an invitation to listen differently.

To slow down enough to notice what’s underneath.

To meet our loved ones — and ourselves — with gentleness.

Attunement is the practice of being with.

Of sensing, rather than fixing.

Of allowing connection to unfold in new ways.

🌷 March’s Still, Us Community Circle 🌷

Each month, Still, Us brings caregivers, loved ones, professionals, and anyone walking alongside dementia into a space of reflection, learning, and connection.

Together, we explore what it means to live with brain change in ways that are more compassionate, present, and human.

🌿 March’s focus: Letting Us Attune

This month we explore the practice of attunement — the quiet art of listening deeply and meeting another person where they are.

When words become harder to find, connection doesn’t disappear. It simply asks us to listen differently.

Through presence, mirroring, and emotional awareness, we can begin to sense what another person may be feeling and respond with greater understanding.

Attunement reminds us that relationship is still possible — even when the ways we connect begin to change.

Grateful for my mother’s birth. Grateful for who she was. Grateful for the unconditional love. Grateful to be her daughter. Grateful for her guidance, even after death.

✨

Mom taught me to care for others. To put myself in others’ shoes. To share. To be generous. To be considerate of others. To lend a hand. To love unconditionally.

I am who I am because of her...

Hola Beloved came to be because of her…

Mom was a social butterfly.

She liked talking to people and she easily made friends everywhere she’d go. Everyone seemed to know her or of her in her town.

Ella saludaba a todos. She’d say hello to everyone she encountered and would encourage me to do the same. I preferred to hide behind her skirt. lol

One of my favorite memories:

We moved back to LA after living in “the valley” for a few months. I was starting a new school mid-year (2nd grade), so I was nervous about not having any friends.

We walked to the school bus stop and while waiting for the bus to arrive, mom started chatting with a lady. They were chatting like old friends! Her daughter and I just smiled at each other 😬

The bus arrived and the lady told her daughter to look out after me...

That’s the story of how mom got me my first best friend. Over thirty years later, she’s still one of my friend’s.

Gracias mami.
