After 20 years working with histology teams across the country,
I’ve noticed something consistent:
The healthiest labs — the ones with strong retention, low burnout, and steady morale — all practice one simple leadership habit:
They Check In Before They Check Up.
Not with a clipboard. Not with a corrective tone. Not with pressure.
Just a genuine: “How are you doing?” “What do you need?” “What’s getting in your way today?”
Great leadership isn’t loud. It’s present.
