Congratulations to Grant EMS provider James Yetter on your much deserved award as First Responder of the year. State Representative Vincent Miresse presented Jim with a beautiful plaque. 40 years in EMS is a major accomplishment. Thank you Jim for your continued dedication and service to the citizens of the Town of Grant.

A large plume of Canadian wildfire smoke has moved into our area, hazy skies will linger into Thursday and possibly Friday.
Combined with high heat 🥵and humidity, these conditions could pose health risks, leading to reduced air quality, especially for those with asthma, COPD, heart or lung conditions, older adults, young children, and anyone sensitive to smoke.

🌫️ What you may notice:
🍊 Hazy skies and an orange-colored sun
🌅 More colorful sunrises and sunsets
😷 Poorer air quality, especially during outdoor activities

☀️ Please help protect yourself and others:
💧 Stay hydrated and avoid prolonged outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day.
😷 Limit strenuous outdoor activities if smoke or poor air quality is present.
🏠 Check on elderly neighbors, family members, and anyone who may be vulnerable to the heat.

The current fire danger in Portage County is VERY HIGH 🔥

This means that wildfires start easily, spread rapidly with increased intensity and are difficult to control. Please do your part and be fire smart until conditions improve!

Due to Portage County being in the VERY HIGH fire danger index per the WI DNR, no burn permits will be issued.

Fire danger ratings describe the potential for a fire to start and spread and the intensity at which a fire will burn in the wildland. The ratings are based on weather, fuels and changes in the general landscape. They bring awareness of the current fire situation and encourage the public to adapt how and when to burn. Fire danger levels aid in determining the daily DNR burn restrictions.
