September is childhood cancer awareness month š
Every year when this month rolls around and I see all the precious friends we have made on this journey posting about their sweet babies who are fighting, or who are in remission, or who gained their angle wings, Iām thrown right back into those memories.
We were lucky. We still have our baby. God used that fight to shape and mold us. Wellness off Main exists today because of that experience.
Not everyone has that type of story. I know so many families who went through the fight, and no longer have their babies here with them. Thatās a really hard reality to wrap your head around and witness, I canāt imagine how hard it is to live it.
I canāt tell you how gut wrenching it was to have a doctor tell us that my 11 week old baby had stage 3 cancer. I canāt tell you how horrific that year was. Holding him while he was put to sleep day after day for radiation, praying he would wake up each time. Watching him be hooked up to toxic chemo day after day, week after week for a year. Having to take an ambulance ride to Devos every single time he had a fever over 100, which was a lot.. I lost track of it. I actually threw our thermometer away as soon as he was done with treatment because itās triggering to me. Having to be away from my other two kids so much that year, I feel like I missed a whole year of their childhood I will never get back. I used to stare out of his hospital room window at all the ānormalā people coming and going and feel such an intense amount of sadness.
I used to feel like my life as I knew it was taken from me, and I mourned it.
But then God showed up.
And He truly did work every bit of that sadness and fear for our good. That doesnāt mean it was easy. But we made it through because He carried us and so many amazing people took care of us. And looking back, I would never want to be who I was before Ezra was sick. I have grown so much in my faith and made so many positive changes to my life because of that battle.
Iām sharing this story with you so you know my heart. So you know why I am so passionate about taking care of your body. So you know why Wellness off Main exists. So you know why I will never stop advocating for you to have clean food, clean water, clean air. Because toxicity breeds disease, and our world is full of it.
I may never know why my baby had cancer. I am always asking myself that question.
But I know without a doubt that toxins cause disease. And that a body that is well cared for and functioning optimally can prevent and fight disease much better than one that has been abused ā¤ļø
Please join me this month in praying for the sweet kids that are still fighting, and for the ones who are in heaven. If you know a family dealing with childhood cancer, love them. Be the hands and feet of Jesus. I canāt tell you how much even a card with stickers for my other kids brightened an entire day for us. If you think you can bless someone in anyway big or small, just do it. They donāt even know what they need at this point, so they probably wonāt be asking for anything. So just love them anyway you can š
