Fine motor fun without the marker mess! 🖍️🕷️

Today’s activity made working on fine motor skills feel more like play than therapy. Using mess-free markers, we targeted hand-eye coordination, grasp and dexterity, visual-motor integration, controlled hand movements, and coloring within the lines—all while keeping the activity fun and frustration-free.

The best part? No tears, no mess, and lots of engagement. Sometimes the most effective therapeutic activities are the ones that don’t feel like “work” at all. 💜

We’re growing with intention. We’re looking for two compassionate professionals to grow with us. Axxis At Home is hiring a Licensed Occupational Therapist and an Occupational Therapy Assistant to support our neighbors in living with confidence, dignity, and independence. If you believe in community, collaboration, and care that truly matters, we’d love to connect.

Dr. Taj participated in the 23rd Annual Training Institute hosted by the Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness. The presentation, From Placement to Stability, brought an occupational therapy lens to critical conversations on tenant readiness, housing stability, independent living, and sustainable community support. All were grateful to engage alongside inspiring community leaders dedicated to strengthening housing outcomes across Connecticut.

In today’s economy, conversations about homelessness must extend beyond placement alone. Securing housing is only the first step; the real work lies in supporting functional capacity, stability, and long-term success once individuals are housed. Integrating supports that promote daily living skills, community connection, and sustained independence is essential to meaningful housing outcomes.

Spaces like these are vital as we continue the work of building stronger, more responsive systems of care. The work continues 🏁 and so does the commitment to creating communities and systems that support people not just in being housed, but in truly thriving beyond placement.

One of my little friends has been working on attention to task, body regulation, and learning how to keep a still, calm body during activities. What better way to support those goals than with extra-large Jenga? 💙

What may look like “just a game” is actually a powerful opportunity for skill-building. Extra-large Jenga helps strengthen focus, turn-taking, patience, problem-solving, depth perception, motor planning, and frustration tolerance, all while creating a fun and engaging environment for learning.

Of course, there were moments of frustration, and that became part of the lesson too. We paused, worked through those big feelings, practiced different calming strategies, and learned new ways to help regulate our little bodies so we could get back to the task.
Once the rhythm was found and confidence kicked in, it quickly turned into the real challenge, trying to figure out how he could finally beat Dr. Taj 😏✨

These are the moments where growth happens through play, patience, and purposeful connection.
