We’re growing with intention. We’re looking for two compassionate professionals to grow with us. Axxis At Home is hiring a Licensed Occupational Therapist and an Occupational Therapy Assistant to support our neighbors in living with confidence, dignity, and independence. If you believe in community, collaboration, and care that truly matters, we’d love to connect.

Dr. Taj participated in the 23rd Annual Training Institute hosted by the Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness. The presentation, From Placement to Stability, brought an occupational therapy lens to critical conversations on tenant readiness, housing stability, independent living, and sustainable community support. All were grateful to engage alongside inspiring community leaders dedicated to strengthening housing outcomes across Connecticut.

In today’s economy, conversations about homelessness must extend beyond placement alone. Securing housing is only the first step; the real work lies in supporting functional capacity, stability, and long-term success once individuals are housed. Integrating supports that promote daily living skills, community connection, and sustained independence is essential to meaningful housing outcomes.

Spaces like these are vital as we continue the work of building stronger, more responsive systems of care. The work continues 🏁 and so does the commitment to creating communities and systems that support people not just in being housed, but in truly thriving beyond placement.

One of my little friends has been working on attention to task, body regulation, and learning how to keep a still, calm body during activities. What better way to support those goals than with extra-large Jenga? 💙

What may look like “just a game” is actually a powerful opportunity for skill-building. Extra-large Jenga helps strengthen focus, turn-taking, patience, problem-solving, depth perception, motor planning, and frustration tolerance, all while creating a fun and engaging environment for learning.

Of course, there were moments of frustration, and that became part of the lesson too. We paused, worked through those big feelings, practiced different calming strategies, and learned new ways to help regulate our little bodies so we could get back to the task.
Once the rhythm was found and confidence kicked in, it quickly turned into the real challenge, trying to figure out how he could finally beat Dr. Taj 😏✨

These are the moments where growth happens through play, patience, and purposeful connection.

Last weekend, Dr. Taj partnered with You’re So Beautiful, Inc. for one of their weekend sessions and facilitated a themed-based group on Wellness and Emotional Regulation.

Together, we created a safe, affirming space to laugh, bond, and build meaningful connections. A beautiful time was had by all… ✨

Wellness Matters with Dr. Taj:

This month, our YSB Seniors were poured into by the incredible Dr. Taj Burroughs of Axxis Wellness during our Health and Wellness session.

We began by setting a few community expectations to build a respectful and supportive space:

✨ One person speaks at a time
✨ Listen with intention
✨ “Don’t yuck my yum,” a reminder to honor and respect one another’s preferences.

From there, Dr. Taj led a meaningful workshop mixed with hands-on, interactive activities that encouraged our girls to pause and connect with their emotions. After each activity, she invited them to reflect on what came up for them — how it made them feel, what they noticed inside, and the emotions that surfaced.

Through these check-ins, the girls practiced emotional awareness and began developing healthier ways to understand and express their feelings.

But this post is more than a recap — it’s also a tribute….Before You’re So Beautiful was fully established, before dates were set, before the full vision was clear, Dr. Taj was the very first facilitator I asked to come pour into our girls. And without hesitation — without knowing exactly what this journey would look like — she said yes!
She believed in the mission from the very beginning, and she has been on board ever since.

Taj, thank you for your heart, your expertise, and your unwavering support. Your impact on our girls is already powerful, and we are deeply grateful. 🩷🤎

Dr. Billy Johnson spoke truth — our communities continue to carry the weight of inequity, not because we lack strength or will, but because access to critical resources has never been equal.

This year’s Black Trauma Narrative theme — “The State of Mental Wellness for Black Men” — calls us to confront that truth head-on. Too often, the mental health of our brothers is overlooked, under-resourced, and stigmatized. We’re gathering to change that story — by naming the gaps, centering lived experience, and building pathways that lead to real healing and lasting justice.

This is more than a conversation.

This is the work. This is the movement.

💜 Trauma doesn’t just live in the mind—it leaves its imprint on the body. It carries physical manifestations. Our bodies keep the score, and healing requires us to acknowledge both the seen and unseen wounds.

The Black Trauma Narrative is a space where we name the impact, honor the resilience, and move toward collective healing.
