š Back-to-school shopping? Don't forget the health checklist.
As families check off backpacks, school supplies and new clothes, thereās another back-to-school item worth putting on the list: your childās annual physical.
An annual well-child visit can give your childās provider an opportunity to:
⢠Check growth and development
⢠Review immunizations and preventive screenings
⢠Discuss nutrition, exercise and healthy habits
⢠Address physical or mental health concerns
⢠Talk about any questions your child or family may have
š What about a sports physical?
A sports physical is designed to determine whether a child is ready to participate in a particular sport. Depending on the school or activity, it may be required before the season begins.
Here's something many parents may not realize: a sports physical and an annual well-child visit aren't necessarily the same thing ā and they may not be covered the same way by your health plan.
In some cases, your child's annual physical may also satisfy the school's sports physical requirement. Ask the provider to complete the appropriate school form during the visit.
š” Insurance tip: Before scheduling, check your health plan's preventive-care benefits and whether a separate sports physical is covered.
Back-to-school season is busy enough. A quick benefits check can help avoid an unexpected bill later.
