This past Wednesday, we held our first Soul Line Dancing class delivered by local instructor Lisa Astudillo. This class had sold out, so we book another one for next Wednesday, 4/29, BUT that one has also sold out. Everyone had a blast! Keep an eye out for one or two of these classes booked next month.

Queens of Table! Our Ping Pong club had its first mini-tournament this past Saturday. We played several challenges, including “Queen/King of the Table,””Around the World,” and “Longest Rally.” These ladies here are very competitive but to win longest rally, they also had to be cooperative. Ping pong is a terrific activity for both the body and the brain. Everyone had a great time!

“The farmer’s walk is a full-body strength and conditioning exercise that involves carrying heavy implements in each hand while walking a set distance. It targets muscles from quads and glutes to traps, forearms, and core, while also delivering cardiovascular benefits and improving grip strength.“

At Q4 Active, our older adult members perform these farmer carries in small group, circuit training exercise classes.

A long-term study found that just a few weeks of specific brain-speed training in older adults was linked with a roughly 25 % lower risk of being diagnosed with dementia — including Alzheimer’s — over the next two decades. This suggests that targeted cognitive exercises might offer lasting protection for brain health as we age.

A study finds that people who did one specific form of brain training in the 1990s were less likely to be diagnosed with dementia over the next 20 years.
