💙 World Polio Day: A Personal Connection to Our Purpose
For Gottsche, World Polio Day is a meaningful reminder of the family story behind our mission.
Marguerite Gottsche, daughter of William H. and Carrie Gottsche, lived with polio. Her family sought treatment around the world, but it was here in Thermopolis, in the warm thermal waters, that she found relief from her pain.
That experience inspired her parents to leave funds to establish a rehabilitation center in Thermopolis—helping others access the care that had meant so much to their family. In 1954, that vision became the Gottsche Foundation.
Today, we honor Marguerite’s story and all those whose lives have been affected by polio. We also recognize the health workers, volunteers, and vaccination efforts bringing the world closer to ending this disease.
Her story reminds us why access to care matters: relief, greater independence, and the opportunity to keep doing the things that make life meaningful.
That purpose continues at Gottsche today, through care rooted in our communities and accessible to all, regardless of ability to pay.
Honoring our history. Carrying hope forward. 💙
