Hey you, welcome to June.

I just want to pump a little motivation into you as we start a new month.

Can we agree that everyone has different experiences, different goals, different excuses, different reasons...?

So here is what I want you to do this week: Stop telling yourself your situation is the exception.

Stop waiting for it to become perfect.

Stop assuming the people who are succeeding had something you don’t.

They didn’t.

They just stopped believing the lie.

Pick one thing.

One workout.

One meal.

One small swap — protein shake for candy, water for soda, a walk after dinner.

One habit that confronts whatever you are facing.

Do it today. Do it tomorrow. Do it the day after.

Drop me a line and let me know that ONE thing. Maybe next month you can pick one more...

The more birthdays I am blessed to celebrate, the more I appreciate the Gift of Exercise.

It’s without a doubt the best gift, given by me, every year.

You may not look at exercise as a gift but it is.

What if I told you that you had to stop moving today?

Think aboutit. All the things you'd no longer be able to do.

That's a pretty scary thought.

Fortunately for most of you, you can move freely anytime you want to.

That's a Gift!!

So the next question I have is …

What are you doing to make sure you don’t lose your ability to move?

Specifically your ability to:

Walk
Sit and stand up from of a chair
Reach to floor
Pull
Push
Reach overhead
Carry or hold a weight
Go up and down stairs or inclines
Get down to the floor
Get up from the floor

As I age I continue to look at my exercise program to make sure I am using the gift of exercise to help me keep doing these things and 100’s of other movements that are often taken for granted.

As someone who has had fitness as part of most of his life and someone who continually hhelps people get better with fitness, I can talk about it all day long.

However, if you're that person who might be struggling to stay consistent with your fitness goals I have a few thoughts for you to consider:

1 - First and foremost - Life comes first with fitness being a important part of something that can make life better

Fitness does not need to consume your life for it to be effective. This is far from the truth. Just like sleeping, eating and great friends, it make your life better when it remains a consistent part of your routine.

2 - It doesn't matter what equipment you use to gain results.

The equipment you choose to use needs to help you make fitness convenient, consistent and sustainable. Period. That includes your own body weight.

3 - If you can find a partner that shares your fitness desires - great!

This has definitely proven to help keep a person's fitness on track. However, no gym, no person and no obstacle should keep you from staying on track with your fitness.

4 - Fitness needs to “FIT IN” to your life.

Life is constantly changing and the fitness plan that works now, will most likely need to be altered at times due to work, family and age (definitely age for this guy.). Fortunately there are 100’s of ways to keep fitness in your life. The challenge is to find the one that works for your present time of life. Also keep trying new options so when life happens you have options to keep your fitness on track.

If you want to enjoy life to its fullest you need Movement.

Think about it.

The easier we move the less energy we have to spend.

If we move with control, the less we have to worry about falling.

The more coordinated we move, the more daily, enjoyable activities we get to do.

Life just feels better.

I know what you're thinking, "but what about..."

Yes, the stronger our muscles the force we can generate with movement.

Yes, the better our flexibility the easier we move our joints.

Yes, the more stability, the less chance there is for injury.

But… It all starts by having the movement first.

Here's my point;

Focus on mobilizing, strengthening and building powerful “movement” and stop focusing on building strong biceps, pecs or thighs.

Focus on mobilizing and strengthening your Squat, Push up, Crawling, Overhead Press, Carrying, Vertical Pull, Step Up, Walking or Reaching.

Doing this will impact life as a whole a lot more han building a strong bench press or leg press.

Plus.. If you want to keep your functional independence, you have to be able to MOVE.
