Yall, meet Duke 🤟
Duke is on the autism spectrum. Hes a little quirky, a little silly, talks louder than most, and sometimes navigating social situations looks a little different for him.. But Duke is my friend and let me tell yall something about Duke, that kid SHOWS UP!!! 💪
He has been to EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. of my skate events. And every single time, hes rolled up on some kind of wheeled contraption 😂 Hes even brought a trailer to pull kids around on 🙌

A few weeks ago, Duke got himself this beautiful purple tricycle.. Now, its damaged...
Heres where things get a little complicated.. I wasnt there, I didnt witness what happened, and Im not going to pretend I know the whole story..
But, I went and talked to Duke this morning to ask first hand.. He told me he was at The Bridge Church when a man in a red truck, someone he says frequently "plays" with him, picked up his tricycle and threw it, causing the damage you see in these pictures... 😡 His momma told me Duke initially said the man made a threatening comment about wrapping the bike around his neck instead.. 🤬
Now, im going to be transparent.. I have questions.. I dont know if Duke has told me everything, and looking at the damage, I suspect there may be more to what happened.. I think he maybe trying to protect this man who "plays" with him.
But heres what I DO know.. Duke doesnt deserve to have his belongings destroyed.. He doesnt deserve to be threatened.. He for sure doesnt deserve to think that someone treating him that way is just "playing"... I reminded him this morning that people who care about you dont play with you like that, and that he needs to stay away from anyone who makes him feel unsafe.. That part broke my heart, tbh..
Duke is ALWAYS smiling.. Always laughing.. Always cracking jokes.. Just genuinely happy to be included.. 😭💔
Thats what Unity on Wheels is about.. Not how well you skate.. Not what you ride.. Not how you talk, how you look, or how differently your brain works.. Its about having somewhere you BELONG!!!
I dont have my 501c3 status yet, but I dont need a tax exempt designation to show up for my friend 🤷♀️🤟 Id like to help Duke get his tricycle repaired or replaced 🖤 I also believe the incident deserves to be looked into by the people responsible for the property where Duke says it happened... Im hoping the Bridge Church will help get some answers and, if appropriate, help make this right.. 👀🤌 But im not gonna wait around to start helping...
